AMEX MR transfer bonus - how often is it on, if it's ever on now?

I received an email today offering a 20% bonus for Amex to QF transfers. This is only relevant to Plat Charge holders and if it like previous offers you’ll need to have transferred previously to be eligible.

I probably won’t be making use of the offer, but it could be of significant interest to some

The email I received was for Velocity transfers. I rarely fly Virgin, a QF bonus transfer would certainly come in handy

If you want to become eligible for the Qantas transfer bonuses, which are usually around the 15% mark you need to do a transfer from Membership Rewards to QF. This then seems to “activate” you in the system and you’ll receive the offers. It will probably be too late for this offer, but they come around every 3-6 months.

This all assumes you have a Plat Charge card, otherwise QF transfers won’t be an option.

Good luck!

Strange that I received the Velocity offer because i've never transferred to Velocity, yet transferred to QF about 6-8 weeks ago. But good to know that QF offers are sent, I'll save my MR points waiting for the next offer :)

Yes Velocity offers (that I’ve received) have always been open to all Amex card holders (no need to have transferred before), although sometimes with a better rate for Plat Charge card holders.

I also received the Velocity offer you mentioned earlier.

Not true: I do not have a Plat card, but am enrolled in MR for historical reasons and I get these offers (including the most recent). Also note it is not restricted to Amex cards: I also transfer from Diners and get the same bonus.

Sorry my mistake. Which Amex card do you have that is enrolled Ascent Premium (which I believe you need for QF transfers), that isn’t the Charge or Centurion?

Others here might like to know what other Amex options exist that allow QF transfers and don’t cost as much as the Charge. The Charge is a great card but isn’t for everyone.

My card is styled a "Rewards Advantage" card; it is the same colour as the Plat card, but laid out differently. Most people who see it are intrigued and say they have bever seen one like it! I am not sure what you have to do to get one; IIRC mine as given to me unsolicited as a replacement for my old green charge card. I have had Amex since 1978 which may have been a factor.

Ah I see - that would explain that, thanks. For the majority of people on here, then a Plat Charge card is what you need to be able to transfer from MR -> QF. Too bad it wasn’t another readily available option I’d somehow missed
