Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

Also those that make use of the few other sources of revenue (such as booking through Amex Travel).
Amex really needs to do something to make Amex Travel attractive to use. Once you've burned your annual credit(s), there's very little reason other than FHR to come back during the year. Qantas airfares are always more expensive than what's available through their own site, Virgin fares show up as part of IAP but I still find better fares on the VA site, booking hotel stays other than FHR means no elite credit, and heck, if you have a cobrand Amex, you earn more points by *not* booking through Amex Travel (bonus points at cobrand airline). Companies design loyalty programs around the kind of behaviour they want to encourage from customers, and right now, the signals from Amex are 'book anywhere but Amex Travel'. 😂 A better earn rate would change that balance!

Has anyone had any recent experience with cancellation and retention offers with the latest update to Amex plat benefits?
Will be more likely to stomach the ‘enhancement’ if they can throw a sweetener in.

Platinum annual fee came up recently so called and talked about all the devaluations that has happened over the years. Was told they don't have any retention offers and could only downgrade to a Gold or Green Charge card.

Tried the same thing today and was told the same thing.

I also called early this year, my fee is due in a few weeks

Both consultants just wanted me to cancel the card and read the script

Seems the points offers are well and truly gone now :(

It was hinted by a former amex AU employee on here that the point devaluations aren't a reason that gets you a retention offer, but other forms of devaluation complaining will. If you are not ex-SYD or ex-MEL, perhaps complaining about no lounge would get you somewhere - I haven't tested this yet, but being ex-PER I might give it a go in a few months when my renewal comes up. I recall somebody on here being successful with a retention offer after complaining about Accor changes too.

the key bit of info:
Despite the law change there are some circumstances where points can be offered. But I cannot say those circumstances because people here will take advantage of that. But I can mention that telling the staff member you are unhappy with changes to point conversions will not get you anything.

I have a reverse problem. AMEX are going to cancel my QF Small Business CC (it will no longer be supported post Sept this year 😔).

They’ve offered me a promo for the QBR card (half the fee for first year and 170,000 QFF points (QBR pts strictly speaking), if I spend $6k within 3mths, but I’m not sure I want one of those cards as I’m winding down my company.

I used to get regular offers to upgrade an old personal QF Gold CC to the QF Ultimate card but those offers seemed to have dried up. I’m wondering if they’ll come to the party with one of those plus some points?
