Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

Got an offer of 40,000 points to keep the card, however nothing if i wanted to upgrade to platinum . So ended up cancelling the card.
 
Amex Explorer, 10 year member, 4-5k monthly spend. AF not due until April.

Have been baiting them for an upgrade offer for years, nothing received, so I took up the Westpac Altitude bonus offer recently with every intention of leaving Amex. To my surprise they offered 80k points to retain. Accepted.

This was via the Manilla CC.

Same as you. 'no offers sir' line and said cant reinistate need another application. The only offer they can make is 'free supplimentary card' which is free anyways. Tbh dont know what they are thinking

Platinum charge card. Called again at 7:10am Sydney time, this time was another lady answered, run through the benefit, I said I am not having plans to travel this year, offered 20k pts to keep card without going through real cancelation process. I'd say fair for me as my spend is average 2-3k per month.

The fee just posted so I called back again. Offered 30k once again which I accepted.
 
Has anyone received points for explorer card? I just tried to call and was told they can not reinstate if I change my mind and also offered no bonus. Do I actually have to cancel it first before they offer?
 
Amex Plat - offered 50k on Friday from a lady overseas. I didn't accept it.
Just got off the phone with Dave who is On-Shore, nothing offered - cancelled the card.
After cancelling, he still said nothing is showing up on the system. Told him to proceed and hung up. He kept saying that we get a lot of benefits
 
Well that backfired haha, got nothing for my Amex QF Ultimate, tried to reinstate the card with this new DSC offer, and card cannot be reinstated.

They kept saying no offers, i thought you had to go thru the cancellation dance before they offered, then they actually cancelled, and said no to reinstatement.

i guess because they made $0 from me, i upgraded free to the ultimate, got 60k points, i spend 10k a month and paid everything on time, so i'm not the customer they want to keep.
 
QF Ultimate card, member 12 years, didn't receive bonus points on a QF flight purchase. Made a complaint, heard nothing.
Offered 15K points to stay, told them it wouldn't cover what I had missed out on and shut it down.
 
I tried the reinstatement on the online chat, I haven't tried calling them yet. Nevermind better cards out there, might just accrue virgin points instead

My legacy card gives me plat reserve for free..... forever so I won't be cancelling that anytime soon.

Plus I got soo many other good free for life cards that I don't think I will ever get another CC approved.
