Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

I did cancel my Amex David Jones last year and they can't re-instate it

They can for charge cards. Credit cards fairly certain they can't. As well as partner cards (not sure if the DJs is a partner card)

I'm happy to be corrected by the brainstrust here (Haven't been in Aus for like 3 years now haha)

Whenever I deal with Amex (and this is only my plat charge) - they can instantly reinstate the charge card, but IIRC there's some laws around following through for credit cards.

Actually now that i think about it... maybe you CAN reinstate the CC's.... calling for backup! :D🤔

My experience was they cant. Tried to re inistate QF ultimate like 15 mins after cancellation and they say please re apply
 
I'm not sure about charge cards but credit cards, they've told me they cannot be reinstated after the call ends. The "old" 30 day rule no longer applies. No one can. I think the theory is that you might cancel the card in order to qualify for other credit on the basis you've cancelled that card so having it reinstated would not be kosher/consistent with having told the "new" credit provider that you've cancelled when you never had any intention of doing so. There's method to the madness apparently ...

Which is pretty funny, it could take months to get either a cancellation letter or an update to a credit bureau from a lender if you cancel a card

Which is how Citi handled my card cancellation. More than two months later, I was still chasing it up.
 
AMEX Explorer, coming up on 1 year renewal with spend about $3k a month during covid.
No points offer, just suggested to move to essential card with no fee. Card Closed

It is already past. Only different I see is the 2 PP lounge entries god knows why platinum holders need.

Yeah i know it is past. The 'benefits' are just not making sense tbh. Reserve card no one will apply it seperately without charge. So if they can design some different perks, even a different earning pattern like QF cards or edge...

I'm not entirely sure. The way I imagined using it is I turn up to a PP lounge with myself and need to guest in two or three other people. So technically I'm still there and present with my name on both cards. As I said, not tested it as never had a need to.
 
Cancelled my el cheapo budget express Velocity Escape card this week, no mention of points to keep it. Wouldn't of accepted anyway.

Will apply for another amex in 12-18months time.

Same situation, no bonus offered so cancelled,

Paid the 2nd year annual fee, received the 30k extra points & spent travel credit on a hotel for Easter.

18 months seems a long way off now 😞
