Hi,

Just looking to burn a couple of credits we have prior to cancelling our cards and I was wondering - if they were used for a refundable hotel could you subsequently cancel them through the hotel directly (i.e. not through Amex travel)? Would this come through as a refund or would you simply lose the credit (I'm not sure the hotel would know?).

I'm not looking to game the program, it's (unfortunately) a speculative booking next year, hoping that Cairns will be open to Victorians by then...

Thanks

im going to say very unlikely,
unless the manager makes an exemption, or cant be bothered

A bit dicey, if you take that path. I always understood that the hotel had the booking/payment arrangement with Amex Travel, and not with the guest. We don’t really know what rate(s) Amex Travel pay the hotel, although it would be at a discount to the usual published rates that are available.
