Amex Centurion Card eligibility in Australia

I’m still struggling with it. It’s a trophy card for sure but can’t bring myself to downgrade. Im
Waiting until we see what further changes come in October after the ‘reforms’ kick in.

I think though the continual devaluations are basically telling us all we need to know. They don’t value our business and the outsized AF. If they can’t make money from that AF, they’re doing it wrong!!

I don't understand how this is a "trophy" card. It's a card! I see uses if you can't be bothered booking stuff yourself or you spend so much that the extra 0.25pts justify the fee.

Yes maybe I'm salty that I can't get one

the truth is I haven't pulled out a physical card in I would think close to 3-4 years - Its always apple pay - the 18 yo girl at the cafe is going to be equally unexcited about any card I use

Asked the young lass (maybe 20yo) "Oh, you don't take Amex?"

What's Amex?

"American Express"

Uhh, I'll ask my boss. [waits] Yeah, she said we only take cards issued in Australia.

I couldn't be bothered explaining so I just paid with a Visa.

If you would like to apply, it is also possible to request an Amex Centurion invitation. You are allowed to do this a maximum of once every six months. If you’re eligible, you’ll receive a response within 30 days. Conversely, if you don’t hear back within a month, it means you’re not currently eligible.

I’m thinking of cancelling mine. Aside from it being a trophy card, what other ‘advantages’ that I might not have considered or used are there? It’s a trophy card & we’re lucky to get an ever so slight increase in benefits and earn over platinum and there are likely more devaluations coming. What am I missing?

As you have the US cards I don't think you're missing much unless you can really use the higher point earn. PP access is still there for 1 supp which the platinum has lost

Just started year 3 of Centurion for me and it's still a keeper for me

Yeah agree, US cards are a help though I wonder what the impact will be after October. I’m thinking we’re going to need some AU cards. I’ve just lost my HSBC AU card today. Will need a non Amex card to replace it. I do t think we’ll be able to use our US cards in AU indefinitely.
