American Airlines has announced a fleetwide upgrade that will see seatback screens and more premium seats added to its narrowbody fleet starting in 2028.
  • More First Class seats: Adding more opportunities to stretch out, dine and unwind. American is currently retrofitting its Airbus A319 and A320 fleets to add an additional row of First Class. The airline's upcoming deliveries of the Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft will have 24 First Class seats and the A321neo fleet will also be reconfigured to feature additional First Class seats.
  • More Main Cabin Extra: Retrofitting the majority of the narrowbody fleet to expand the number of MCE seats, providing even more access to extra legroom, earlier boarding, dedicated overhead bin space and a complimentary beverage.
  • To make time fly and complement its elevated cabin layouts, American will equip its narrowbody fleet with state-of-the-art seatback screens at every seat on all new Airbus and Boeing aircraft deliveries starting in 2028, as well as on retrofitted aircraft.
  • American will roll out the new displays as quickly as possible, with full fleet installation expected to be complete by early next decade.

Adding more opportunities to stretch out, dine and unwind.

Happy to see the screens make a return to American Airlines but I always find it funny when American mentions dining. In Australia I can get a pretty nice hot meal served in J on the quick hop between Melbourne to Sydney but in all of my "First" class flights with American I have only been given coughpy pre-packaged snacks with flights longer than the MEL-SYD hop.

Heck I just did SYD-MEL the other day and even in economy got a nice hot pie. Blows a pack of peanuts out of the water.

Could be a good product between these lovely 4k screens and Starlink being installed across the fleet too.

Can't see Qantas reversing its stance on IFE screens given they have no incentive with Jetstar and Virgin as competition.
