Re: AMEX Explorer referral

luck of the draw - I've used your link and been approved. Now just to meet the minimum spend...

Thank for my first ever AFF Referal bonus

Thank you on using my referral link.

I actually checked my account and saw the 20K and then popped into this thread to see that you were the source. Thank you!

I see you were concerned about meeting minimum spend and so here are some tips to help you (and anyone else that needs assistance) on your way to meet your minimum spend:

1/ Link to your PayPal. If you do not have one, create a PayPal account now! This not only earns towards your minimum spend but will earn you more points per $ than a Visa or Mastercard for bills that take PayPal but not Amex. Telstra for example takes amex but charges a fee. With PayPal you dodge this fee. I pay many bills including Council Rates, my Health fund this way.

2/ Prepay Bills. Health find, power, phone rates. Thhese add up and wil soon reach the minimum spend required. Still short? Perhaps you have a relative who does not chase points and you can pay it for them and they provide the cash.

3/ Buy some Gift Cards. This allows you to bring forward spend on groceries, fuel, movies, clothes etc etc, but to actually purchase the items later when you need them. Also site like cashrewards allows you to buy Wish cards and save 5% upfront!

PS:My link again for anyone that needs one is HERE. Again I will earn 20K refrral bonus and you will earn 110,000 points ( 10K more).

Re: Your Karma balance will reward you too. AMEX best offer IMO.

Big Thanks to the person who used my referral link!

Hope you were able to get some value from my tips.

cheers

Just got my new Explorer card. Very excited about this card. Mainly for the 1SPG point per $ spent. But plenty of value to be had with 1.5 airline miles per $ (possibly even 2 airline miles per $ if your lucky!)

There is plenty of great info on getting the best out of this card on this thread and site. I am excited and hopeful about unlinking and linking my Gateway and Ascent program cards to hopefully get the 110,000 points as an existing cardholder and then get 2 airline points/miles per $1 spent after that. I am also excited about transferring to SPG then Marriott for their flights and stay offers, Alaskan Airline miles here we come.

I wanted to share a tip to anyone signing up for this card to derive even more value from the card. If you find this useful I'd very much appreciate you using my referral link:

It is possible to add yourself as a supplementary card holder, I just did this with Amex. When you add yourself as a supplementary card holder it is called an "Account Card" or "A/C" card. I have one of these on my Gold Charge card as well. I did this with my initials rather than full name to tell the cards apart.

Why would you do this?

1. When I called up to add myself as my first of 4 free supplementary card holder I asked if they were still offering the 5,000 bonus points for adding an additional card holder. The lady went off and checked and said yes that wasn't a problem. These points have already been added to my account and I haven't even used the card yet.
2. One of the best things about Amex at the moment is their Statement Credit offers. I have saved a couple of thousand dollars from the cashbacks this year. Shop small, Harvey Norman, HCF, David Jones, Langtons, Westfield and Myer to name a few. Never hurts to have as many Supplementary cards as possible especially in your own name especially when this card comes with 4 free supplementaries.
3. The reason behind an A/C card is you set up all your direct debits on this card and then keep it safe at home somewhere separate from your other card/wallet. Then if you lose your wallet you don't need to change over all of your direct debits.

There are some great tips on this site on how to get the most out of this card, make sure you subscribe to these threads:

Amex Statement Credits have saved me thousands this year.

For when your annual fee is approaching call and ask them "What have you done for me lately?" I got 84,000 points to keep my American Express Gold Charge Card. The annual fee is only $130!!

Re: Your Karma balance will reward you too. AMEX best offer IMO.

Hi All,

I applied through someone else who helped me earlier this year. (hope you enjoy your points :) ) in return i'd hope someone uses my link.

I get 20,000 points through my referral and you get 10,000 extra for a total of 110,000 points.

I've used this card for a few months now and it's great to put your bills through and i've attached it to paypal so that's been very easy to use so far.

I've also used it during the boxing day sale, which made it easy to clear the points (you need to spend $1500 within 3 months to activate the points) and the points came automatically after my minimum spend was reached (WOO HOO GO AMEX!!!) no need to call anyone :)

The card does have a $395 dollar fee which i initially found to be quite a lot but as you also get about $400 in travel credit (which i used to book hotels in sydney for valentines day ) you end up getting the card for free if you were already travelling or booking hotels!!! So it became a no brainer for me.

It's only been 2 months and i've already earned about 15k in points from my spending as i've got my parents as supp card holders.

Anyway I would really appreciate it if ppl used my referral link. =) Let me know if you need any help and be happy to guide you.

I'm an existing Amex card holder and would be keen on the bonus sign up points. When applying, should I state that I'm an Amex card holder and enter my Edge number? I'm hoping that since the opening of the Gateway account is what gives you the points, this shouldn't matter. Can anyone confirm?

Doesn't matter if you tick yes or no as you'll still get the points. If your Gateway is linked to Ascent, just make a call later the night to have them unlinked.
BTW this was recently discussed on the other Explorer forum.
Also make sure you apply through the referral for additional points.

Hi. I dont think not ticking the box will make a difference - they will know you have another card. However if you only have an Edge you whould have no difficulty with bonus points as long as you make sure points post to the Gateway program when adding the card to online services. You can then try linking it to the Ascent program later once bonus points come through for a better earn rate.

It wont matter. They'll work out that you are an existing account holder anyway.

Disclosure: Sign up using a referral link, and you'll earn 110,000 points (as a referrer, I'll earn 20,000 points for each referral made). The card has a fee of $395, but you are also entitled to $400 travel credit. Current expiration of the referral promotion is 31 January 2017.

  • I would be very grateful if anyone uses my referral link, I've just made my first redemption getting my girlfriend and I to Europe - where I will be proposing (luckily she doesn't read these forums);
  • If anyone would like to help fund our honey moon in the near future it would be very much appreciated!

I don't seem to have had any luck yet - but I suppose a lot of us are in the same boat.

Just under 2 weeks before this ends, though to be fair, amex has a tendency to extend these offers.

I tagged myself, the only issue was it came linked to Ascents.

You can then try linking it to the Ascent program later once bonus points come through for a better earn rate.

Have people successfully re-linked to the Ascent program after de-linking? Suppose I should ask in the other thread.

Yep relinked in one call. It is best to call at night to get an o/s call centre, but not essential.
If they say no just hang up and try later on.

Thanks Hammando, what do they do with the two points balances? Do they merge them or do they remain split and you the new earn rate is applied once linked.

No worries.
I actually transferred all mine to SPG before the re-linking, but two friends have had all their Gateway points transferred over 1:1 to Ascent.
Explorer then earns 2 points per $.

Re: AMEX Explorer referral

Well I have just applied using a link in this thread, and 45 seconds later ... approved.

Enjoy the bonus points.

Re: AMEX Explorer referral

I have finally got on board with the Amex Explorer card and have received the card two days ago. I guess that I am one of the few lucky ones to obtain a third amex card. I currently got a Plat edge card and an association affiliated gold card. When I applied for the Amex Explorer card, I was ready to cancel my gold card and was waiting for amex to give me a call to advise that I couldn't have more than 2 amex cards. Happy to discuss further in private on how I managed to get a third card.

I wouldn't count on this. This has been a very generous offer and it will come to an end.

If any one is thinking of applying I'd be looking at the January 30 deadline carefully.

Hi All

Ok so I’m late to the party with this one but I’ve just activated my Explorer card and thought I’d throw my hat belatedly into the ring for a referral or two.

Sign up using a referral link, and you'll earn 110,000 points (as a referrer, I'll earn 20,000 points for each referral made).

My referral link can be found HERE

Details are: Receive 110,000 Membership Rewards® Bonus Points when you apply online by 30 January 2017, are approved and spend $1,500 on your Card within the first 3 months of Card Membership. Card comes with a $395 annual fee.

A couple of months ago I got the QF Ultimate Amex card and love it but I have to say this one looks even better. I’ll be looking to cancel the Ultimate Card and keep this one most likely as the flexibility to transfer to multiple airline FF programs is very appealing and the earn rate is also very good.

As many would know Mrs NoName and I ate our way through various parts of the US last year on flights which were completely points-funded. I’m looking to go back some time in 2018 with the goal of returning in SQ Suites Class (don’t tell Mrs NoName!). If you enjoyed my trip report last time and would like to see more gluttonous displays in the future then a sign-up through my link would be very much appreciated.
