I just saw this article saying AA are stopping Oneworld ruby and sapphire privilege of getting free access to Main cabin extra. Sad to see more enhancements to the OneWorld family.

Yes, there’s some discussion on FT:

Also, in the thread title, Spellcheck used all caps. 😉

Put simply it was an added benefit that AA didn't have to provide under the oneworld agreement.

And I've got no problem with an airline treating its own FFers better.
Just like Qantas does with lounge access on Jetstar flights, and better availability of reward seats.

(and somewhat funnily the oneworld elites will still be able to access the lounge before the flight, whereas AA elites on a domestic itinerary won't) (but that's a whole separate wormhole)

Back to the way it used to be. I remember back in around 2010 travelling ORD-LAX on a 767 as a QF WP, I was in middle seat third row from the back of the 767 I was travelling on.

I had a great experience of upgrades to MCE in the past as a QF Gold - a shame to be losing it.

It’s a shame, but always funny that AA treated me better than QF flying Y.

I like to fly AA domestic J anyway because it’s not much extra and the SCs and service make it a great choice.

Certainly... those bulkhead Y seats now would cost a QF WP USD110+ on a transpac segment when last year it was nothing extra.
Let's assume someone did the maths on this. Who is going to pay USD110 and be an elite and be travelling.

I believe AA is making a significant announcement Wednesday (US time) regarding changes to earning/retaining AA elite status

It'll be interesting, they had reduced somewhat the criteria for status earn due to covid.

I just noticed AA is extending MCE for free to oneworld elites (Sapphire & Emerald) - but only AS, BA, IB, AY and JL.

I was trying to work out how they came up with that list, but I just noticed alphabetically, excluding Cathay, the supported airlines (including AA) are the first six on the list.

But seriously, it's probably because they are all JV airlines - but now QF & AA have a JV, shouldn't we be included?

MCE for AA JV partners AS, BA, IB, AY and JL was reinstated a few weeks after it was first announced (~22 Oct 2020).
