I read an article on the The Weekend Financial Review (Dec 21-27,2007)called "Insiders' Guide to Frequent Flyers" by debra Cleland. In the article the author mentioned the advantages of belonging to the AA frequent flyers program (less points required for travel than QANTAS, less taxes and surcharges than QANTAS, and can travel in a QANTAS flight using AA frequent flyer points).
I have in excess of 200K QANTAS frequent flyer points and want to go to Toronto in the near future. Does anyone out there know if I can transfer points from the QANTAS frequent flyer program to the AA program ? I suspect no.
If I become a member of AA FF program and buy a QANTAS ticket, can I claim the points on my AA program rather than QANTAS.

That article interviewed our very own Dave Noble. :)

Any miles that you have in Qantas will have to stay there however for future earnings, you can collect in most cases to AAdvantage

G'day callbrae, welcome to AFF. :D

As posted you cannot transfer Qantas FF point to AA.

"Once a QFF point, alway a QFF point" - there's more in this thread here:

If you become a member of AAdvantage (Free), you can credit most Qantas flights to AAdvantage.

However, be aware that not all Qantas flights will credit to AAdvantage; it depends upon the booking class code.

More on that here:
As for booking class codes, this thread may assist:
And finally, there's a very good thread on AAdvantage for an Oz resident here:
