Can I use my American Air points to book a flight for another person without me on the flight?
Thanks straitmanI have done it for various airlines so cannot see why it cannot be done with AA.
ThanksYes, you absolutely can. There are no restrictions regarding who you can book for, unlike Qantas FF where the passenger must be a relative.
Thanks burmans….for that heads up.Note though there have been reports of people being questioned and even accounts frozen where the airline questioned whether this was a sale of points. So you should be aware of this possibility and have a good answer if they ask why you’d want to use your points for someone else.

Absolutely this. AA is well known for this. They take a very liberal view of ‘bartering’ points - which they prohibit. They froze the account of a guy who bought tickets for him and his mate for a holiday. His mate bought the accommodation. The only restriction that I’ve found is that the credit card used for payment must be in the same name as AA account holder.
