Amenity Kit Collector

I tend to never use anything in these kits at the best of times as I tend to fly Y and they have nothing of use in them. What I would like them to include is a pair of ear plugs!! that would be a highly useful addition.

Buy a case of 12 And you will have at least one!

Agree simple and handy. QF F used to have them - anyone remember?

Generally the expensive moisturisers he seems to get in them, and things like that. Lip balm is especially useful when he gets to NZ in the winter :p

I received a nice bottle of Salvatore Ferragamo cologne in the SQ F kit.

I agree that the insides are pretty ordinary but they make good make-up / toiletry bags with the exception of that hideous green CD case thing that QF used to have

Again with the SQ F kit, it has a nicely sized zip bag, green in colour but actually looks OK. I've found it handy for keeping my various travelling tablets in along with my usual meds.

I thought I'd criticise QF amenity kits a lot until I realise that other airlines aren't doing a hell of a good job anyway.

I scored a UA J kit on this journey. It is bland. LX J kits aren't much better - plastic-ish shoe bag; OS J kits look nice but are slightly impractical.

I think I saw some discarded SQ J kits as I disembarked from the 388 flight in NRT. It just looks like a light blue shoe bag - embarrassing for an airline of its reputation.

VS J kits are a joke. I sincerely hope their VA companions do a far better job in their J.

Y kits are absolutely nothing to write home about any more. They are usually glorified zip lock bags. SQ must be trying to insult people by offering flimsy-ish cases that say "by Givenchy" on the front, but on the inside there is absolutely nothing from Givenchy: just a toothbrush and socks (which I doubt are Givenchy).

Whilst most people have a strong contrary opinion, I do like the Anya Hindmarch bags in BA F.

IIRC the SQ J kit I received was fairly basic, and that blue one that was mentioned. It was a regional config J flight though so not sure if different for longer flights.

Yep, I'm a big fan of amenity kits – I always grab a spare ladies' one (well, not 'grab', i ask nicely for it) for my mum, my current GF or any female colleagues who're heading off on an economy flight.

And as noted, they also make superb gadgets bags for odds and ends. The ones I liked best were the older Qantas L'Occitane ones (I think they also used the same design for another toiletry brand before or after) which was a tri-fold - three separate mesh compartments, one with a zipper, and it folded onto itself and secured with an elastic strap. Perfect for spare AAA batteries, iPod cables, voice recorder, USB key, SD card adapter etc!

I love that L'Occitane one! I still use it to this day when doing short trips and taking HLO.

I work in politics (for another few weeks, at least) and came across this media release from a Tasmanian senator. Basically, it's encouraging Australians to support our troops this Christmas by sending a care package (free of charge up to 2kg, apparently) which might includes, among other items, toiletries. Other than the homeless and donating to shelters, I can't think of a better way post-flight use for unused amenity kits.

I'm assuming the the SA kit was from F as I only received a J kit recently and it was total rubbish. Bag was half-moon shaped and too small to re-use with anything. Some lip balm and other tubes of skin stuff and a small pen. Threw most of it out.

... And the SQ kit they were talking about must have been F, because all I got in J recently was an eye mask and tiny pouch which I haven't even bothered opening.

At least they served Bolli. :p

I know that my typing is far from perfect but I just re-read the article. Had to laugh at this new airline...

SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINES AUSTRALIA
This airline might not be well known commercially, but its amenity kit was recently given a Mercury award by the International Travel Catering Association – in other words, the airline has a green conscience, and is the first to produce an entirely environmentally friendly amenity kit. The exterior bag is made from PET felt with no nylon, colorants, chemical treatments or synthetic accessories, so it is fully recyclable if you decide you don't want to keep it. Inside, the bag contains products from Rituals, a cosmetics company that only uses natural, renewable and organic ingredients, which are packaged using biodegradable and recyclable materials.

I would guarantee that this airline is not well known!!!

The website does exist - it's SAS's portal from Australia.

Of course, we all know that the real SAS is from Scandinavia, not Australia.

Just took delivery of a new CX J Agnes B kit courtesy of Shrek, ideal size for makeup brushes and has already been put to good use :)
