Am I Really So Out of Touch?

It was the whole...... Your emergency exit and counting the rows which confused me.

Normally it's like.......... ZERO.

;)

You actually listened to that? And tried to count. Oh my God, people will think this is the first time you've ever flown! :)

The best is when little kids actually practice the brace position, during the safety brief.

You mean you didn't ask for an exit row seat (or something like 80A/K)? It's still Y - just not *as* cramped... AFF fail right there ;) haha

Well I had a very long chat to bossreggie on our flight and was great to see him sit in Y+ for take-off and landing. It was too much fun to be seated for very long - had to explore the A388 and found the lounge area at the front of the nose on the upper deck fantastic - got to be next to AJ as he was interviewed by all the TV stations.

I love that lounge. On 3/4 legs I sat there after boarding and received better treatment than at my seat!

Okay, I have photographic (and eyewitness) evidence that bossreggie did in fact sit in Y+ on both flights (QF1 and QF2). Will post them...

Nah. Y+ doesn't count, esp when you still get access to the J lounge on the A380. It's Y or nothing. Which I think was the NZ leg from UK. But I'm betting that didn't really do the trick. Just very uncomfortable.

I think BR chose Y+ to be with his friends (LW and markis10) but his allocated seat was J. Maybe even F He made a great choice.

My understanding is that he was offered a Business Seat initially by QF, but asked to be downgraded to Y+. QF complied. Y+ certainly isn't a good seat for a restful or comfortable sleep. We told bossreggie to accept J or F on QF2 if he was offered - which he wasn't. I admire his tenacity to sit in Y+ (particularly on NBW, I thought he was going to panic and walk off when the FA told him and bossreggie was thankful that whilst we knew, we didn't tell him). Those couple of double champagne certainly dulled the mild panic he had - the look on his face was priceless

I was actually wondering when he would find out it was NBW/OQA, considering he vowed never to set foot on her again he did bloody well to fly with her then!!!

good on you BR!!

Fantastic, a bit of class is great - however, friends are better.

Sorry to bring up an old thread.

I was in a pretty happy relationship. Then I met someone else. Never meant for it to happen. It just did.
My decision to end the relationship came as a big shock to my ex, as we hadn't been having any issues at all.

You make £70k what possible difference will that make to our lives.

If I was your partner (or soon to be EX), what would stop you from doing this again. Then he (or she, whatever), would have stopped med-school/uni for a number of years, and after the break-up, they would have had a very difficult time to get back into the work force.

I saw someone mention that one of your parents passed away recently, my deepest condolences.

I hope that your new relationship works out.

Spoiler Alert. If you read this you are probably going to be bored and you will possibly understand why I am the way I am.
.

Well like WOW. Not many people could be so open and honest on an internet forum on such a personal issue. Congratulations. And also perhaps a sign too of the quality of a number of people that frequent this particular forum.

. We were having dinner 2 days ago and he says he can't be bothered going to Australia for the GP. He doesn't want to go to DXB he wants to focus on his career. I was like. You make £70k what possible difference will that make to our lives. (Not an ideal thing to say as it turns out) he said I was really out of touch with normal people.

.

FWIW, I don't think his comment was on the money aspect of his career, but rather on his "career" and the personal and professional satisfaction that one can gain from ones career/job.

To become a Doctor of Medicine obviously takes a lot of time and effort. If he is passionate and committed to it as many Doctors are he may wish to explore and develop it further. With many Nurses for example it is not the money that drives what they do it as a career, but rather that they value working in a caring profession.

Interestingly enough you are now taking path for a while where it is not remuneration that is driving your "work'' activity, but a passion for food.

I hope that you find that which you need.

Do you realise how pathetic this all sounds? 95% of the worlds population would give a limb to travel at all.

I can't believe no-one seems to have mentioned the Pulp song, "Common People" yet. It's going to be stuck in my head all day after reading this thread. Is this for real? [ETA: Oops - sorry: I didn't read the thread carefully enough]

If so, I suspect the real issue is not money, but respect for your romantic partners and space for them to keep their own self respect. We all need something in life that makes us feel that we are valuable, worthwhile human beings. For many people, that means a strong career. For others, it might be about caring for a growing family, or being a reliable and consistent volunteer, or excelling in sport or art or travel writing. There has to be something. If there's nothing, there's nothing left but depression.

If you are with someone who has built their identity around being a doctor, telling him that his career doesn't matter is pretty much the same as telling him that he doesn't matter.
