Am I really going to be stuck in a middle seat?

Booked in Y on QF11 tomorrow SYD-LAX, departing 10.15am. I don't have status and have just checked in - assigned a middle seat. Unfortunately when I try and change seats, all seats are shown as unavailable.

On checking ExpertFlyer, I can see many are still showing as blocked, including the one beside me. I know it's hard to know what blocked means - but is there at all a chance to have a seat change (e.g. on airport arrival)?

Have included the EF seat map below.

You can put an EF alert for aisle seats. If you want to pay for legroom 80A seems available.

This is the map I see as P1.

Okay, great - thanks for the information. So it may be possible perhaps at bag drop to change (or that there might not be someone beside). Fingers crossed.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

With flights that full / near full some one will be sitting in middles seats. Just the way it is.
With a 3-4-3 (=10) configuration that is 1-2-1 (=4)

Thanks for your helpful response. I clearly understand the implications of full flights and no status but the other commenters have assisted; your input is really not useful.

That's a bit harsh, given your question was literally:

"Am I really going to be stuck in a middle seat?"

Mwenezi gave you the odds.

In any event, it might be a busy flight, based on flow on effects from the transpacific disruptions mentioned in this thread:

QF8 Cancelled - Friday 12th

He didn’t give any odds. I saw those threads later and your post is more helpful than his.

He gave layout that we all know.

short answer is yes
long answer is also yes

But YMMV

Well if you want the odds
61 middle seats with an X
32 aisle/window seats with an X
(Using your picture).

So a 65% chance of getting a middle
Or a 35% change of getting an aisle/window

But that’s if seat allocations are purely random which we know are not random - which may or may not be beneficial to you.

I'm not being critical but thought seat selection on Qantas flights was complimentary?

I booked SYD-SIN on Qantas in March as an award for wife and daughter and was able to select seats for them. I changed seats a couple of times free of charge. Was that my Platinum status kicking in?
