Hi All,

I've got 80 SC's to go before 30th Sep 08 to attain Platinum status. It's been a hard slog over the last 12 months as all SC's were earnt domestically, mostly on budget economy tickets.

I am currently a Gold FF, and was wondering what people think are the major benefits I will notice when I go Platinum. Is it true you can access the QC anytime regardless of whether you are flying or not? If so does that mean I can take myself and 2 mates to the QC and have a few beers before heading off to the footy ?? ;)

Appreciate any feedback. Cheers.

Yes you can go a beer. The bar opens at 12:00 (or is it 1:00 pm ?). However if you drive the cost of getting to the airport and cost of parking may not be worth the beer money

Thanks Mwenenzi, Aami stadium isn't that far away from Adelaide airport LOL :D

You will also find you gain access to the 'new' J lounges in SYD, MEL and BNE
plus have even better seat-choice when you OLCI on domestic flights

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Do you have any internation travel for the following 12 months? If not, Plantinum will not really be all that much different IMHO, sure you get 100% miles and J lounge etc, but it is all the perks of Flounge and CX's superb treatment of OWE's that make all the difference.

My 2c worth.

I second that... CX treats OWE pax like gods.

We managed to get upgraded to First on AA because the flight from LAS-LAX was full, all because we are OWEs.

Also you should not be charged for any excess baggage... I once took 16 checked in bags and 4 carry on bags on a QF flight with my partner and did not get charged ! :D

You get front of the line for upgrades, especially useful on say AU-Europe trips :) actually since being WP i have not missed a requested upgrade, sure a little bit of luck but much better hit rate than before.

And yes CX does treat OWE well :D (And the Flounge in HLG where i had lunch today is fantastic)

Based on the type of travel you seem to undertake, I am not sure you will notice any change at all. I achieved platinum status after doing a Leyland Brothers in economy in my first year as a QFF member. I already had corporate QC membership, so even that was no different.

I suspect, as people point out, if you travel overseas, then it might have some impact but otherwise, your travel experience is unlikely to feel any different. Sorry, but congrats on at least getting there. :p

Agreed.

Domestically SG's and WP's are treated largely the same. The new J lounges are nothing to write home about in my opinion and last week were busier than the regular QC at 3-4pm.

Internationally the Flounge is well worth it IMO if a regular user and the obvious access to points upgrades (which I always missed as SG).

Second the comments about Cathay Pacific. Travelling as OWE on a DONE4 is a very pleasant experience. They look after you very well. Their Flounges in Hong Kong are exquisite.

The Qantas Sydney FLounge is even better, IMHO.

It's nice being able to access Flounges around the world, though most of the ones I've visited don't seem to offer much more than the normal type. Sadly, the Concorde Lounges in London and New York aren't available, unless actually flying First.

When picking up passengers at Canberra, occasionally I'll have enough time (like when the flight is delayed) to pop into the club and have a cup of coffee, use the facilities, grab a copy of the Qantas mag to stick in a back seat pocket in the cab. Very pleasant. All I have to do is show my card.

I tend to travel with a lot of luggage - books are heavy! - and I've never had any problems, even when flying on a Dash-8.

I usually get good seats, and was once upgraded to First on AA FRA-DFW doing a DONE4.

I don't know if it's value for money, but air travel can be difficult and stressful, and having a few privileges and extra comfort far from home makes a big difference.

Just about to notch up Platinum status (1 day before my anniversary). Phew!!! :-|

Although, I did have to 'pay' for an upgrade from K to J on Adelaide to Alice Springs leg in order to get the 60 SC's I required.

Qantas should print a big smile on your card! Well done!

Yes, congratulations ! I was very chuffed the first time I achieved Platinum. I now keep a spreadsheet to tally my SC's to make sure I retain the status...

It's a lot easier to retain than to gain. You still have to do a hunk of travelling, but it's like getting a boat up to planing speed: you get more bonus miles, you don't have to earn as many SCs, you've already got the status to get you into Flounges etc. A powerful incentive to keep up to speed rather than drop back down and have to climb up again.

It's almost as if Qantas planned it that way.

Congrats! It may have been cheaper to pay for an extra seat (book two seats in your name) than go up to J? You don't pay the FF on the extra seat.

That's what I did once when I wanted to get to gold status. Nowdays I couldn't be bothered, to me the QFF incentives aren't much chop anymore so I won't pay any extra just to get more SC's. Use of the QP is OK but at peak times it is often as crowded as the gate these days and you are left to fight over somewhat sad looking scraps of food like a seagul. Use of the showers after an overnight flight remains the part I like most. But if you use F Lounges I guess that would be an incentive for you.
