That would be interesting indeed. Though mighty unusual to spend money refurbishing an a/c (which was done in June) and then change its interior out again.

I think the point of this is to have customer feedback on whatever the innovation is. It's probably cheaper this way than refurbishing 8 787. But I would have prefer to see all A330 refurbished first.

Will be interesting to see, or if as many say it was just there for a repaint. Find out tomorrow I guess.

If adn it is a big IF it is an interior thing, considering the short time it was away, I would place a bet on premium economy seats.

Rumors on a.net that VH-QPJ will have the Dreamliner interior. Coincidently, QPJ is now on its way from VCV to SYD via KOA and should arrive tomorrow morning, just in time for the 787 presentation...

Interesting. Definitely would be a surprise, although those 333s will be with QF for a while yet so making them look fresh might be smart..

Although the thread has a bunch of rumours, and I very much doubt they are all true.
- New bar in J
- Cozy suite in Y
- Dreamliner styling (unlikely given its an A333 - is there an Airbus equivalent?)
- New/ special livery (with thoughts that this is why it is flying back via Kona rather than Honolulu)

15 days is spot on for the regular paint job in Singapore as well.

Also noted that AA has shifted it's schedule and will have an aircraft in town for tomorrow morning as well.

Anyway for those looking for the thread

About 9hrs before VH-QPJ lands in SYD.

Definitely a new/special livery - saw it pass over just prior to landing at SYD, could see QANTAS emblazoned across the bottom of the aircraft.

Can't the repaint be done locally or at least somewhere closer to Australia?

IIRC Paintwork requires very special facilities as the chemicals to strip the paint need special handling and the room has extra filters to reduce the dust and spray so not a regular maintenance hanger.
Australia has some facilities for repaints, 737 size downwards I believe but no longer the larger aircraft.

I could be completely wrong but I thought the A332/A333s were previously repainted in SIN or MNL?

The other 7 333s (QPA-QPG) and the ex-JQ332s were repainted over the last 18 months in Paya Lebar QPG in Singapore.

I wonder whether these aircraft will need a full repaint or if they can just redo the tails, titles and belly

Thanks for confirming. VCV by comparison seems an awfully further way to go to get a repaint done.

Roughly double the distance - 7687mi SYD-HNL-VCV versus 3614mi SYD-SIN-QPG.

Note both require two landings as the pilot/crew have to undergoing immigration at SIN.
Might be cost differential, might be availability
