I mainly asked because of the comment upthread about not renewing until you needed A+ benefits.

A little more context on my thoughts up there - I am yet to use a free night or BOGO as an A+ member, and only ever book travel on flexible terms, so RHR are not generally any use, either (unless available very close to travel). Since A+ status carryovers dried up, it's only the 15% off stay rates and the F&B discounts that do it for me (my status comes from spend, so don't need the nights), and as far as the discounted rate bookings go, I've found that continued membership is not necessary, so long as you are signed back up before it comes time to actually stay. YMMV.

Yikes! Thanks for pointing that out @serfty . I have Diamond until the end of next year and was then going to rest on my 'laurels' and not renew this November, as I wouldn't be travelling nearly as much in '28. I'll have to do the maths of renewed membership Vs paying increased rates.

But… as I mentioned, I’ve not experienced this. I’m sure rates would be adjusted if you rocked up as a non-member, but provided your membership is active again before you arrive (and restaurants, you only need to tell them when you request the bill!), I very much doubt anything negative would happen. They’re not monitoring for active subscriptions against bookings along the way. I’ve done this at different brands and on different continents and it’s been fine. Again, YMMV

No risk here ... if I book a Exp+ rate, I'll make sure I'm a current Exp+ member before check in.

Not an Accor loyalist (at all), however a new Novotel has just opened in St Kilda a few minutes stroll from my house and the accompanying bar/restaurant seems quite good. Contemplating an Explorer membership just to attain the discounts for what would likely be regular spend at the restaurant/bar.

However, obviously need a broader cost justification, so I am curious on everyone’s experience with redeeming the free nights at more premium hotels domestically? And any other benefits of course.

The RHR rates are decent
As for the Stay Plus nights, as you are in Melbourne I can give you an example of the Sofitel where a night can be $400+ and you pay for one night and get the other free. That’s your Accor Plus Explorer value right there without anything else and you get 2 of those per year.
If you want to splash out on a suite you might even save $800+

Some restaurants don't honour the discount unless you are hotel guest. Something to keep in mind.

Correct. The free night is room only
