david870mdg, (interesting handle)

Congratulations on the achievement. Now onwards to Platinum:!:

We are currently sitting in the Alaska Airlines lounge at SEA waiting for our fog delayed flight to SFO. When we arrive in SFO SWMBO will have reached QF Gold for the first time and she is quite excited at the prospect. She is even more excited at the prospect of probably making Platinum this year.

Could you please explain?

I'm doing a Status Run in the USA next week (thought I might as well seeing as I was already going to be there).

YUPP/KUPP fares are your friend:)

300 SC's per day, 2 days, 600 SC's and WP done and dusted (although i got a bit too ambitious. I'm going to end up around 280 SC's over WP qualification by the end of this year, not my membership year).

Well i'll be in New York this weekend is it possible to burn up such a status run and if so what are the suggested routes ex JFK?

Hey i'm doing it in 2 days next week (600 SC's that is) to put me over the WP mark. It's very easy to do:)
Define easy?

If you do not need to be somewhere then I fail to see the point of travelling to a destination and then taking a number of flights just to accumulate SCs to get status just in case you will need that status sometime in the future.

That being said silly me has just booked a bargain status run in SE Asia that will yield 240SCs for ~AUD900. I am still going to be ~300SCs short of Platinum by May 2010 and don't know whether I want to torture myself on another status run. Perhaps I could just sneak in a few SYD-CBR-SYD-BNE or BNE-SYD-CBR-SYD flights before my reassessment date.

ex JFK is difficult for cheap fares, especially at only a few days notice!

Looking, on Saturday you could do LGA-DFW-ONT-DFW-LGA departing 6am, arriving back 11:30pm for USD1040. (45 minutes with the ONT turnaround). You would earn at least 420 SC's for that. (Tough day but).

On Sunday you could fly to ATL r/t for USD910 and 360 SC's.

It makes for a tough and expensive week end.

With forward planning (3+ months) 600 SC for less than USD1300 is a doddle!

Each to their own of course. It's two days of flying and 8 segments, but for me, it's worth it. I have a lot of travel already planned for next year (into my re-qualification year) so it makes sense to get WP now as it will just make the re-qual easier (and all those flights i'm taking will be with the points bonus and hopefully treated better as a WP by airlines, one can only hope).

Having been stuck as a PS for close on 10 years, it's just nice to make WP. A few pointless trips for the hell of it is a bit of fun for me as well. Yeah, I know, each to their own (again) :)

Well, I'm sure I can factor these in my next trip to the US.
Thanks for the tips.
I'll just stick with SG status as an SFSC.
David :)
