Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan

I'm just wondering has anyone tried to book that AKL-SIN-FRK-JFK on SQ on the AS site with a stopover in FRK? It's 145k AS miles. Not sure if this is good value or not? I tried to use the AS multi city function to book with a stopover in FRK. But it doesn't come up with anything when using the multi city function even though the flights are showing as available when you search them separately. Is this possible to book the FRK stopover? It seems too hard for their computer system. I guess I have to ring the call centre.
I dont think that route on SIN is allowed to be booked using Alaska miles.
Refer to the chart below:

NZ to Europe is not an option on Alaska mileage plan
NZ to USA is, but not on SQ.
Even NZ to Asia is not allowed on SQ.

You might have to use CX to get to Asia and then connect onwards on a separate ticket. This is complicated right now with HK being closed.

Actually, it seems the above is incorrect, sorry. It appears AKL-SIN-FRA-JFK is infact bookable on the website as one ticket. So, the restriction is something else.
I think the stopover can only be on the hub of the airline, in this case, SIN.

Having some issues with QF multicity on Alaska website.

I was planning to book MEL-ADL on day 1 with ADL-ASP on day 2 with a stopover of less than 24 hours. I can see availability on both sectors, but when I use the multi city option, it vanishes.
If I put MEL-ASP on its own, it routes me via SYD. Is it not possible to stop at ADL? Call center also seems to have the same issue.
Hopefully you resolved this but if not, or if it's useful to others, interestingly I've found I often get more results and routing options on QF awards via Alaska when I attempt to change an existing reward rather than start from scratch. The trick is just to make sure your initial booking has at least two sectors in it so you can play around with them.

A ridiculous routing I booked a few years ago was MEL-BME-PER-SYD with a <24-hour stop in BME. The system was obviously not going to show it as a MEL-SYD option, nor would it show me results if I did a multi-city of MEL-BME and then BME-SYD.

I ended up creating a multi-city of MEL-BME and then BME-PER within 24 hours, then changed the BME-PER leg to BME-SYD and it came up in the results via PER, in effect just tacking on the PER-SYD sector at the end.

Given you can cancel without penalty other than the $12.50 "partner fee" at Alaska if something still won't show and you really don't want the ticket otherwise, it's worth a go.

Does anyone know if you can change an exisiting multi city booking ie JFK-HEL-LHR where I want to change just the HEL-LHR leg without losing the JFK-HEL leg in J? Can this be done online?

You should be able to do that online. Just go into the reservation and choose the “change” option and you’ll see that it lets you manage by individual sector. You can choose the “keep flight” option for the JFK-HEL and then choose the “change flight” option for HEL-LHR and adjust just that one as needed.

AS are having their latest miles sale promotion. I got the usual 40% offer. Just wondering does anyone on here actually ever get the 50 or 60% offer? Just wondering what criteria they use to make the offers. I’m definitely not buying speculatively with their imminent changes coming up.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get from EUR-HANOI mid June next year? What’s the best way to access Vietnam Airlines J space EUR-Asia?

I saw that AS has CX LHR-HKG in F for 70k miles + $299USD mid June. I could buy the miles for $1000USD in the AS sale but I only got 40% offer so $1299USD all up is getting up there even for F. Expensive with the coughpy USD-NZD exchange rate at the moment.

CX don’t seem to have released any J awards on that route. I already have HAN-SIN-AKL on SQ J via AS for 65k miles to get home late June. Would aeroplan be any better?

I might try and see if LH release any J award space FRA-HAN closer in. I can get that sometimes on the airpoints partner chart for $1000NZD (airpoints dollars that is).

Has anyone noticed that the Singapore airlines option for Australia/NZ-SIN in J for 65k mileage plan miles has disappeared off the AS chart in the last day or so!! Not a good sign. That was a good use of AS miles. There’s only the CX option now to get to Asia. Wonder what’s happening there. I did a search and the AKL-SIN flights are still coming up. 😅 It’s just the award chart that’s changed.

Only got offered 40% max bonus which isn't going to do it for me. I've found the AS chart too expensive in some areas and no use for BA flights with those surcharges. I've moved on to Aeroplan and hotel points on sale.

I haven't been following very closely, but my understanding is that Alaska recently devalued its award chart by moving to dynamic pricing.

Has anyone recently redeemed AS miles for transpac flights? Are they still the bargain basement prices they used to be?

Trying to work out if it is worth chasing a few AS-earning US credit card sign up bonuses.

The deval was intra-US. They haven’t wrecked partner airline travel, yet. However, they have introduced the term “dynamic” into their partner award charts which could suggest a deval in the future.

QF Business awards from South PAC to North America using AS points is still a bargain at 55K. From Perth to NY if you want to really max it. But good luck finding availability, let alone with QF.

It begins. 👀

I'm surprised they haven't done this to Fiji or Qantas yet, not that there's ever availability these days. 🙄

I've seen a flight I want to take instead of the booking I already have on Alaska site. Does anyone know if AS call centre will put a booking on hold, whilst you cancel the existing booking, and then make the new booking. I don't want to cancel one flight and then see the new flight I want to book disappear? I don't want to buy more points even though they are on sale at the moment. I only got offered 40% bonus.

Try bringing up the booking summary list, do not go right into the booking.

Select the three dots for the booking you want and choose change.

You can vary the origin, destination time etc.
