Alaska Airlines Board Room @ LAX - thoughts?

I Was told in SFO in October that flying AS metal on an AA flight number would not grant me access (as a then SG) to the Boardroom.

Not sure how people got in with QP only, maybe the lounge staff are just nicer (that said, I didn't try to get in to the SFO lounge I simply asked at checkin, on reflection, I should have tried as the mass of people at the gate was somewhat large:))

From reading the previous posts as they were on QF flight numbers and the Boardroom being classified as an associated lounge..

Someone mentioned on AA flight numbers they gained access. I'll test this out if I ever fly AS again in Y (Their F is quite pleasant. I'll stick to the pointy end on them :))

The above was the exact scenario that I had. I was flying Y with the Mrs and QC membership. Was allowed in without fuss.

Maybe it was my lucky day?

Possibly. I do recall asking at SEA if I hadn't have been travelling AS in F and was on an AA codeshare if i'd be allowed access as SG and they said no, but were not really confident on it.

If you were lucky, good for you though

Never hurts to ask. I should have asked in SFO at the lounge:)

I will try and make this very brief having used AS Board Rooms many, many times in the past, along with having a friend that works for AS, whom I stay with several times a year in Seattle.

If you are on a paid F class fare, you have access regardless of it being an AS or AA flight number in the booking. The printed boarding pass you will get will have the AS flight number on it with the fare bucket next to it if on AS print stock or in the class field on the right panel or main highlighted area of AA print stock (looking at all 12 boarding passes this year from SEA sectors on AS)

QC members will only get access if you are flying on a QF code share flight, whilst this will not always show on the boarding pass, it is in the system so you should have no issues.

The AS day pass system is great for those without access or status to get in to the BR, cheaper than what AA or other airlines ask, and the lounges are IMO much better than what AA offer (with the exception of Flagship lounges for WP's etc).

The LAX BR is comfortable, they always have assorted snacks, crackers, cheese, fruit, cookies etc, and later in the day soup or chilli is on offer. They have a wide range of beverage choices and it is not serve yourself alcohol as has been mentioned, you need to ask customer service staff during the day, or the bar staff in the evening. 3 alcoholic beverages is the published limit, but I have never had issues on longer stays having many more than this, just be courteous and a tip here or there does not go astray.

The SFO BR is quite small (smaller than the AC at SFO) however they do have slightly more on offer in regards to snacks than the pretzel mix in the AC. I always get my fair share of crackers and Tillamook cheeses along with some carrots or celery and ranch dip. Alcoholic beverages need to be ordered through the front counter staff or if someone is lurking in the back room near where the used plates and cups are left. The one strange thing with this club is all sodas are kept at room temperature in the right end cupboard below the snacks and coffee machine, just add ice and all is ok (oh, btw, the Jones sodas they stock in the BR's and inflight are excellent, especially the Root Beer). There is free wifi access, just look at the cards on various tables etc for the login details.

Last but not least. the SEA BR is one of my favourite lounges. I always love waiting in there for an early morning flight in winter with the fireplace going (well, gas fireplace anyway) a flavoured coffee and pastry. You can sit downstairs where there is plenty of desk space to get work done. or go upstairs and watch some TV.

HTH, I just got back from there 2 days ago and will be back flying AS in 18 days time, hopefully it will be a white xmas, although so far Seattle has just had loads of rain with some frost in the past few days. (nothing like last year, with 2 foot of snow on the ground at SEA-TAC and more in higher elevations in metro Seattle/Tacoma)

Flying in Y on an AS or AA flight number should not get you access to the Boardroom. There are reports of it being allowed and i have pulled it off-but i presented my old blue life members card and it wasnt on their pictorial list of QF cards so they let me in thinking I was some kind of QF super elite.

For those that are interested, I'm writing this from the Alaska Airlines Board Room Lounge at LAX

Upon arrival, I asked to buy a day pass because I'm not a member of the lounge (USD 30 for the day - i had 4 hours to kill)

I think the attendant noticed my accent and asked if I came in on qantas, which I did. She asked if I had my qantas card, to which I replied, "no not on me." (Not techinically true, I had a bronze on me...) But despite this, she just said: "aw, just go on through"

The lounge is quite nice, small though. No showers, but free wi-fi and good slection of food that is changed depending on the time of day (e.g bagels at brekky and salads at lunch).

Great view across the runways and comfortable couches. Not much more to say! cheers!

I love what the accent can do in the US

And at times it can truly be an embarrassment what some people will do to try and get attention, why not just wear a jersey with a big G'Day on it...

What is the bet others will now try this, and even expect to get let in, some things are best left a little grey. To back this statement up, look at what is happening to a lot the good YUPP/KUPP fares, they are no more... what was a good little secret, loop hole (whilst out there for everyone to see) is fast becoming a piece of frequent flyer history

Regardless of Accent, you will find that most of the AS Boards Rooms dont have lounge dragons, they have real customer service staff.

So you may have had an Aussie, Kiwi or Brit accent, there would have been a good chance you were waved through, after all, you were flying on AS metal and they are one of the few Nth American airlines that do look after there customers, to what I would consider an adequate level other than just getting you to your destination

I am going through that problem right now, trying to book several of those 'special' fares in the US, but they are hard to find with the times I need. Not talking about YUP fares on this leg, but I am on a flight that arrives into ORD about 6.30pm and the next flight to Detroit is 9.55pm and gets into DTW at 0015hrs. Just what I want after SYD-LAX-ORD. Even though there is only Y seats between ORD-DTW that I can find its only just over an hours flight.

Was at this lounge on Thursday it is ok..... the range of food is not the much muffins and bagel's. the coffee was good better than Starbucks cough.

only had 2 hours to kill and flight was late getting into seattle and different terminal so didn't get to sample the seattle one.

Alaskan Airline Access at T3 LAX

I'm flying to Boise from Melbourne this Saturday and will be flying from T3 on a QF Flight number run by an AS plane. As the QF lounges are in T4 and Tom Bradley will I be able to visit the AS lounge in T3? I'm a QP member and silver.

In May I flew with AS from YVR - Seattle - Anchorage to Fairbanks. I had access at YVR but not at the other two locations.

The fine print on the QF site is impossible to interpret as AS seem to be International Airline Partners rather than OW partners. For Info on my last AS flights I got FFP's but not SC for my flights.

I'l advise whether I have success (not that my flight connection will give me a long time anyway)

Re: Alaskan Airline Access at T3 LAX

You wont get access I am afraid, they are a partner for points, not lounge access.

Re: Alaskan Airline Access at T3 LAX

You can get a day pass for USD$40 if it’s that important to you, I think.

This Lounge is pretty damn good.

Note if your flying V-Australia from LAX you can use this lounge.

For $35 USD for a one off pass I think I paid last october.

Complimentary Alaskan Ale on tap was fantastic, they have a sign saying a limit of 2 per person but heading back to Aus I didnt really need all those left over american dollars, gave the bird behind the bar a few tips and I think me and my travelling mate sank about 12 beers between us in the 5 hours we had to kill.

Comfy seats and free internet access along with chips, soup, and cheese and crackers.

Having spent plenty of time here i'd say it's just pretty average. It's not a par on the QP's back here, but it's not a bad place to spend time either. T3 is a *#$hole IMHO. It's a nightmare when a V Australia flight is departing as well, with not much more than organised chaos at boarding.

I'll stick to T4 anyday ;)

I checked under Manage My Booking when selecting a seat forward of the prop on my Dash 8 flight from LAX to BOI and noticed that this code shared QF / AS flight departs from Terminal B (TBIT?) instead of Terminal 3. If this is correct my previous question should be solved. All the other info suggests that AS flights use T3 but maybe those that have a QF codeshare have been moved to TB.

Re the earlier queries about AS Board Room Access to QC members flying on AS, when I was denied access at Seattle I was told that QC members have access at International ports where QF fly into (eg YVR) but not other Board Rooms.
