Actually one stopover allowed generally on return flights to NA.
i tried to get stopover CX intra Asia not allowed.

The rules are quite clear: Mileage Plan awards may include one of the following: a one-way, round-trip or open jaw itinerary. One en-route stopover at an eligible city is allowed for each one-way award on international itineraries. An exception allowing an otherwise-illegal open jaw trip is permitted when travel is between the State of Alaska and the lower 48 states and a stopover occurs in Southeast Alaska. When award travel is redeemed solely on Alaska Airlines, one enroute stopover is allowed for each one-way award. One enroute stopover is allowed on a one-way award. Round-trip itineraries with 2 stopovers, or one-way awards with 1 stopover may only be booked through an Alaska Airlines call center. They are not available online. Call center ticketing fees apply.

So based on this chart,

http://www.alaskaair.com/content/mileage-plan/award-chart/award-chart-australia.aspx#cathay

Could I pay 80,000 for a one way First award between Australia/NZ and North America say something like MEL-HKG in J and then 4-5 days later HKG-JFK in F ?
Would that be allowed ?
Does anyone have an idea how much the taxes/fees/surcharges would be for such a booking at least a ballpark figure ?

Cheers

Should be fine, and taxes fees would be under $200.

This looks like an amazing deal!!
Which other destinations have CX F service?

Which other destinations have CX F service?

More like which ones do not have CX F service?

The only destinations without would be regional, Middle East, and Australia/New Zealand... and possibly South Africa.

So... Europe, USA, Canada and South America?

Yeh I thought it was something like that. Somewhat of a minority considering CX probably fly to dozens of cities in dozens of countries.

Well what were you expecting? Have you looked at a CX route map?

You could add dozens of countries and cities to where CX flies, but most of those are in Asia, which are operated with regional equipment.

I wasn't expecting anything, just didn't particularly like the way you shut down one of our fellow forum members when he was asking what I thought to be a valid question

AS has this real sweet spot compared with AA which require lower miles but cannot route via HKG (must be transpac i.e. QF i.e. impossible).

I wish AS allowed more CX routes - its odd that they only have AU and NA.

so they allow a stopover in Hong Kong on the way to the US?

I dunno if I would want to pay for F when only the HKG-USA leg is in F

Cathay don't fly their metal with F to AUS do they?

they also have intra-asia and hkg-europe, hkg-india/mid east, hkg-africa .... what more do you want?

CX dont fly F to Australia, but considering a redemption in F HKG to the US is 70K, and your paying 80K from Australia with the first segment in J, its good value.

indeed since there are far fewer routes with F than those without F

I'm looking to use my points for J one way to Europe for my family of 4. We 'll be flying Hong Kong to Paris.

We had used Alaskan miles in January to fly one way PER - BNE - LAX in J (we cruised back home)...no issues with buying miles in December last year.

Were now back to LA after buying again during this current 35% promo. PER - BNE- LAX Qantas Business...and then return LAX - HKG - PER Cathay Pacific Business with a 2 day stopover in HKG. I used a normal Aus Visa...brought the full 230,000 over a couple of days, some came through instantly, some took a few days to load. Flights all booked and seats selected :)

Total fees/charges were $397 USD for 2 PAX...plus the miles purchase which is $1187.50 USD for 54,000. 4 x 54,000 ($1187.50) + 1 x 14,400 ($354.75) = $5501.75 USD or approx $5,900 for 2 return PER - LAX :)

The approved cities are the hubs in general, I am guessing it was not HKG that you were looking to stopover at?

Looked to stopover CX HKG on SIN - HKG - NRT. Two agents said not allowed. Agent made memtion that the itinerary had to touch North America.

howevever would be most interested if a CX PER - HKG - JFK ticket allowed a stop in HKG!

Call Alaska to clarify... They are very friendly and helpful...

Yes you can do a stop over per - hkg - North America.

We had a stop over on the way home for our flights later this year but changes them to just a 8 hour transit instead.

Also the great thing about Alaska is you can change your itinerary as many times as you like up until 60 days before travel. So you can look for business class or first availability of there was none when you booked or change dates etc..... Within 60 days of travel there is a $125 fee.
