Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Also you can make unlimited changes up to 60 days before travel and if award availability is there and its costs you nothing.

Within 60 days of travel its $125.

Australia to North America is 60,000 points each way on cx using Alaska miles.

You can't mix carriers though so can only fly CX all the way through as opposed to going perth - Melbourne qf then mel to hong kong qf then across on cx.

It has to be the 1 partner from origin to destination. Once in the US you can go onto your destination but it must be with Alaska metal.

thanks for this, why did you go premium economy and economy for some legs, was it due to lack of availability and need 5 seats?

Booked Mrs Lime and self CNS/HKG/CNS in J on CX for 120K AS miles purchased when 35% extra deal was on Dec. last, cost was AUD$3100 all found!!, only booked late Jan for May next, yes really.

A Dr. friend is doing a one way HAN/DFW/MEM in F on AA for about 60K miles (about AUD$1300), am I in his good books.

Just curious.

Did all 5 pax travel on the same CX flight in J ?

If so, how did you locate the 5 seats: one go, over many weeks.... ??

Or, did you have to split the travelling party ?

Thanks

I was patiently waiting for this offer to come up again!

Thanks to this forum I was able to book Business Class to LA from Perth on cx for 5 people!!

We are mixed class going to Hong Kong and Back but the long legs from Hong Kong to LA and return we are all in Business class.

Alaska allowed me to do mixed class so we are in Business/Premium economy and economy up to Hong Kong from perth then Business & Premium Economy back to perth fron Hong Kong.

So thanks for everyone's help!

Also as a tip, I booked my husband and infant together using my Qantas points for total cost of 278,000 points and $1300 rather than buying 120,000 alaska miles and paying 10% of the fare from my infant which equated to total cost of around $4500 (alaska buy cost + infant fare and taxes).

So bring on October/November!!!

Limewood- did you have to call Alaskan to make the CX award bookings? Did you research availability on CX website first? Cheers V.

Ooooohhh! This solves the little AA 'travel from AU to US must be trans-pac' rule that frustrates so many people with the lack of QF J space to LAX! PER-HKG-JFK for 60k miles in J is absolutely unbeatable! Isn't this even less miles than AA (62.5k?).

The more I read about AS the more I like it and I think it should receive more publicity than it does - there are some really odd restrictions (i.e. cant book QF AU-Asia) but there are some super sweet spots like CX to US. If they allow more routings (i.e. add to their partner charts) this could be a serious alternative to AA!

PS - I don't think anyone will be complaining about having to take CX J the whole way over a QF A330!

what tool would one use to search for CX availability?

I use Asia Miles. Be aware that it may bring up a mix of OW options depending on route and you can only book CX metal (and some random others) through AS (for example it may show PER-MEL QF then MEL-HKG CX but you are not allowed to mix carriers)

any ideas how long your account has to be open for? i opened mine 15/2 and just tried to purchase then but got rejected. hoping that doesn't mean i miss the entire promotion and rather just have to wait another week(?). fingers crossed.

Two weeks in my case

The award section of the AS website has all the answers as they can differ depending on which regions you're flying to and from.

I'm thinking of buying miles now with this promotion for a trip next year. I noted on their site that accounts will expire after 2 years with no activity. Activity being earning and using points. Just in case my plans change, can I award a Jetstar/qantas domestic flight to Alaska Airline to keep my account alive?

Earn Mileage Plan™ miles when you fly Qantas - serving more than 100 destinations, including Australia and New Zealand. Qantas operates flights with First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy classes of service.

Cheers Legroom. Looks like it would be easy enough to keep activity.

Im looking for my mum for some J seats to US . Whilst CX have little or none for the dates I am looking at I can see quite good availability on Delta. Plus its less points.

Takes between 2 days and 10 to be able to buy miles, if CX flights need to find seats first then call and hope AS have them.

I purchased 120K AS miles during the Dec 35% extra offer, points arrived in my account in 48 hours, booked 2 x J CNS/HKG/CNS on CX cost was AUD$3100

Flights in J OZ to USA very hard to find, better result is going via HKG.

To clarify. Is the australian contact number on their site free to call from an australian land line? I saw it mentioned on here somewhere people had been calling free with skype?
