And for arguments sake, I believe dfcatch was talking about UA's 777's which are 9 abreast (excluding some Hawaiian routes)

Yes that's correct.

UA 787 (9 across) was more comfortable than a UA 777 (9 across) as well as the QF 747 (10 across).

Excellent question - it was in Economy Plus as a 1K (in various seats, most times without a shadow).

My QF flights have been with various status over the years - but for the last 6 it's been as Plat or Plat One.

So my comparisons have all been with top status on the respective airline and with my pick of the seat selection.

(I wasn't comparing top status with one, and nothing with the other).

That's why I much prefer the 380 to the 747 when flying QF in Y.... At least the 380 has several Y seats where I can be significantly more comfortable.
