Will fly SYD-AKL-SYD on QF for 40 SCs for AUD614, then I am making a short trip in business class to pick up 160 SCs. Cost AUD709. Maybe doesnt make sense but I need 195 points to keep gold membership.
Will appreciate suggestions for the best seats.

There was a thread within the past two weeks for a sc run between Sydney and Auckland in J with LA. From memory, it was a good deal on a $ for sc ratio. You might want to do a search.

NM's favourite seats by aircraft type maybe of some help to you in determining the best seat. I think they use an Airbus A330 but I am not sure of the configuration or even if similar to the one's NM has flown.
Naah, that thread won't help. I have not flown on LAN so am not in a position to comment on their best seats. They use an A340-300 for that service.

:oops: Well maybe it will help next time on a another flight.

When I flew SCL-AKL-SYD-AKL on LA I flew in 6L to SYD (I like looking out widows.) I can't remember precisely but I think that row 5 was a bulk head??? Just looked at seat map from Sabre (KVS) and it isn't even showing row 6. Row 2 is just behind first class and might have more room. The seat itself I didn't find as good as the seats on the LA A330, maybe slightly less pitch as the seat looked essentially the same.

On the return SYD-AKL I was upgraded to First. If you get a friendly chatty FA on AKL-SYD mention that you are returning to AKL on the next flight. You'll get the same crew, and try and drop that you are interested in getting an upgrade.

Enjoy.
Mal.

On the LA flights SYD-AKL vv, the first row of business class is row 5.

Opps, well in that case I recommend against row 2 as you will be VERY squashed, especially if others choose to sit in Rows 3 and 4 :p

I'm flying LA this weekend for a short NZ getaway. Hopefully Immigration will be nice to me this time :D

Assuming I havn't overindulged in the QP, will get some notes on the seating arrangement and possibly some recommendations.

Row 1 is best :roll:

This is definitely something that I am looking at as part of my AA earning...hope they keep the prices as they are advised here.

EF shows the following cabin arrangement for LA800 on a day coming up

===========
LA800

F Cabin
1D 1J 1L

J Cabin

2D 2H 2J 2L
3D 3H 3J 3L
4J 4L
5J 5L
7A 7C 7H 7J 7L
===========
QF 321 (Codeshare)

F Cabin
1A 1C

J Cabin

2A 2C
3A 3C
4A 4C 4D 4H
5A 5C 5D 5H
6A 6C 6D 6H 6J 6L
7D
===========

So, I make J to be 7 rows deep x 6, starting at 2 and finishing at row 7. Econ starts at row 12 I think.

Definately a Row 2,3 and 4 in that map.

Would be so much easier if LAN didn't take their seat maps off their site :(

That doesnt look right. F has 1 row of 5 seats. Last time I took LA in business, first row was row 5 (although this could have changed since I suppose).

F is one row of seats in my diagram above, it's just I've split it into the QF / LA selling diagrams, so it only appears to have 3.

Just hopped off LA800.

Business is 6 rows, starting at 2. Bulkhead, galley, emergency exit and toilets are before row 6. Seats are 2x2x2 config in Business.

No seats look bad for a short flight, although 5 and 6 could have some issues due to their proximity to galley and toilets.

I think LA has multiple plane configs for the same models these days. That is why they've pulled the maps off their site.
