Can anyone recommend a great hotel in Auckland for comfort and location... I am at the Novotel for the rugby then want to tranfer somewhere else for a few days.

What sort of price range? What services do you want it to offer?

The hilton is apparently great - I've been around it, but havn't had the joy of staying there yet.

My normal digs is Rydges - comfy, good location and not too bad on the wallet.

I've also stayed at the old Sheraton (It was recently renamed to something else... ) - Location wise it's in a very bad spot if you want to be in the heart of town.

Others will prob throw in their suggestions as well...

If its location you're after then cant beat Hilton. Its also pretty good hotel, although pricey by NZ standards.

The former Sheraton is now a Langham. Its a bit out of the way.

Russell - I also replied to your post elsewhere.

For work-related visits or spoiling Mrs LW, I wouldn't go past the Hilton now... I used to stay at the Sheraton, but it got very tired, some questionable service and was too far away from my client's.

When I'm on personal visits, I stay with good friends in Howick when I can. Great way to save $$.

I saw Kiwi Flyer (and I have replied).

Looks like the Hilton will be the go. Anyone stayed at the Hyatt or Stamford Plaza?

If you want location, the Copthorne is hard to beat, I think. On the harbour at the bottom of Queen St. Not a bad hostelry either. (http://www.copthorneharbourcity.co.nz/)

However, you can spend more and get less elsewhere if you really want to.

:)

Copthorne isnt on Queen Street! Its Quay Street - just down the road from Hilton and across the road from waterfront and Viaduct Harbour areas.

Hyatt is a couple blocks (uphill) from Queen Street - just across from Northern Club. Havent stayed there but used some of the facilities. Nice lounge, ok bar and restaurant - sometimes have some good happy hour deals. Had reports that the new residences tower is much nicer than the (older) main tower, but this may have changed with refurbishment.
