The SYD passenger processing problems on the early morning of Friday 9 March due to security camera and other system failures were a classic case of the airport management, not JQ TT VA or ZL being responsible.

In these circumstances, would the contracts between airlines and airports (with the latter in this case owning the terminal) have clauses allowing airlines to claim for some or all of the $'000s in delay costs or is it a case of 'bad luck, these things happen?'

These delays are also unfair on airlines in the sense that their punctuality figures become worse, essentially through no or little fault of their own.

I would think it was a case of bad luck these things happen. Would be the same when a terminal is evacuated for any number of reasons and all passengers have to be rescreened?

If you are affected you could check to see what travel insurance would cover.
