Here is a way for the airlines to move the focus off recent events and resurrect an old story for the media to publish.

From news.com.au:

THE Australian and New Zealand governments have been urged to open up more secondary airports to passenger jets to increase competition with existing private airports.

Why am I not surprised that Jetstar is involved again?

Open up the debate of a second airport in Sydney again using the air force base at Richmond. If you wanted to travel OOL/AVV-DBO you would be better off driving as it will be much quicker than flying.

Or perhaps just drive to the primary airport? I somehow don't think just because a secondary airport opens up it means that flights from OOL and AVV to SYD will stop. Rather you'd get Richmond to MEL/BNE. Not gonna happen though.

The Cape Canaveral base in Florida is allowed to use MCO as a backup landing place for the returning shuttles.

But on-topic I think this is more a landing fee negotiation tactic.
