Airlines are to be banned from advertising cheap fares and then slugging consumers with additional fees and charges buried in the fine print, the federal government says.

Labor today moved to prohibit any component pricing which leads to consumers making purchases without knowing the full price of a product.

Consumer Affairs Minister Chris Bowen says it is "fundamental'' that the total price be provided "at least as prominently'' as any component price.

why is one flight's taxes $500 and another's is $1000 ads should say if the flight is via Teipei and Timbuktoo or worse, Sydney. and say if its $50 for a can of Coke and say if the movie s $10 a minute and say if baggage limits will be lowered. and say if they've got more bodies per square meter than a cattle train and make sure the board members and ceo's pay the fines personally, and void the directors and officer's cover. and if there's price fixing,

Thank you for that ( I was going to say Thank God - but got concerned that it would be construed as politicaly incorrect) Any hooooo, I was confusededed as well. I thought it might have been that extra glass of shiraz.
