Airlines running out of fuel question

Hi, I want to book a flight for February next year to Thailand but my husband say what happens if this Iran fuel thing gets worse and there is no fuel for planes. If we have booked and paid will we lose the money or get it back?

I would still book now but book with airline direct. Also not a low cost carrier if you can avoid.

Pay by credit card. Visa/Mastercard will likely give you your money back.

As above, book with a credit card and directly with the airline. At the very least you'll be entitled to a refund under ACL if the airline can't uphold their end of the deal. In the unlikely event the airline collapses or refuses to give you a refund for some reason, you can request a chargeback through the credit card provider.

Had an ANZ Black card for several years. Not had a problem getting a charge removed if I had clear evidence of non-supply.

Honestly if the “Iran thing” gets worse to the point there “no fuel for planes” there’ll be no fuel for you to drive to the airport, no fuel in Thailand for you to travel around, no fertiliser to grow food for you to eat and no gas to provide electricity over there.

And with all that in mind there’ll be such an economic depression there’ll also be no job for you, husband or anyone else to provide money to spend on holidays. So I personally don’t think it will get that bad but if there’s “no fuel” a credit card refund will be the least of your worries

I disagree with this. I had to get AFCA involved with my last Amex chargeback, and Amex waited until the day they were due to respond to AFCA to resolve the complaint.

One I had with Qantas Pay, on the other hand, was very smooth and seamless.

Isnt that what your travel insurance is for in case you are not covered?
Also you need to consider Smart traveller advisories
A lot of Travel insurance dont cover Red "Do not travel" areas.
