Airlines recruiting ambassadors

Yes and it seems to me Etihad for one has trumped Qantas. I reckon QF can prepare to move on from Travolta.

And Qantas adds Jessica Hart as 'trend consultant'

Talk about c-grade celebs.

Presumably some marketing companies idea on the basis that you will get $xx in 'free' publicity for a small $ outlay

Much prefer John, at least he knows something about QF and planes.

So do executives - sometimes shown the door or overlooked for promotion. Anyway...with Travolta i think the fizz has gone.

I think the fact that I had to google Jessica Hart says plenty.

I'm just it sure if it says she's a C grade celebrity as others have suggested, or that I'm getting old.

Probably a bit of both.

Don't worry, you're not getting old. I'm young and I still have no flipping idea who Jessica Hart is...

Travolta might be getting a tad tired, but that's probably because he hasn't been stepping out in public much. But as an ambassador, when he was active, there was probably no other celebrity I'd rather see taking on the ambassador role for QF. He knew a lot about the airline and you could see his passion for QF. But agreed, QF do need a more publicly active celebrity as Ambassador.

As for Neil Perry... Well considering he is of Rockpool fame I'd say he is much more of a celebrity chef (for Australia at least) than Luke Mangan and his uhhh... which restaurants?

Another +1 for googling Jessica Hart (that sounds so dirty )

Airlines (and other companies) have been getting brand ambassadors on for years. For a while there Miranda Kerr was QF whilst her other half Orlando Bloom was BA's spokes celebrity.
It's nothing more than the cult of celebrity being used to push wares.

+ 1 for not knowing who Jessica Hart is.

I would never board a plane because some 'celebrity' endorsed it. Other factors (price, timetable, safety record, in flight entertainment, nonstop v indirect flights, seat pitch, cloth v uncomfortable leather seats and so on are far more important.)

Celebrity endorsements isn't about getting someone to board a plane or make someone more likely to board a plane. It's about marketing and getting the brand into their heads to think about in the first place. The first step for anyone to fly a certain airline is being aware that they exist and then they'll consider that airline based on other factors. All advertising is about making the brand favourable in whichever way possible.
