AIR Canada and Air New Zealand have been barred from entering a revenue-sharing arrangement on the Sydney-Vancouver route.

The airlines had planned to enter a joint services agreement, where they would have promoted each other's services and shared profits from Air Canada's direct Sydney-Vancouver service and Air New Zealand's direct Auckland-Vancouver route.

The chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Graeme Samuel said today his organisation was concerned the proposal would reduce competition.

Both airlines have been dumbfounded by the decision issued Tuesday which says they cannot code-share on flights between Sydney and Canada.
