Airline scraps lifetime loyalty scheme | NEWS.com.au travel

"SINGAPORE Airlines, the world's biggest carrier by market value, today defended its decision to scrap a lifetime loyalty programme after a local newspaper said customers had threatened to sue the airline.
Singapore's Business Times, citing an unidentified party to a possible lawsuit, said a group of "high-profile businessmen and professionals" was threatening the airline with a class-action lawsuit.

"We paid a premium price to fly SIA in the belief – now mistaken – that we would eventually reach Shangri-la. The court action will be to seek compensation," the newspaper quoted a former banker as saying.

Members of Singapore Airlines' top drawer PPS Club enjoy the usual benefits of many frequent flyer schemes such as increased baggage allowance, access to airport lounges and priority boarding, but they were offered life membership once they reached a certain level."

Lifetime loyalty?

Obviously, the bottom line means a lot more than customer loyalty.
