Flying MEL to CDG in J can anyone offer advice on which is better. AF has a QF flight number so status credits apply on both options. MEL to Asia is QF. Finn air is from SIN via HEL to CDG. AF is HKG direct to CDG. Dont mind connection on Finn if it's better product.

At least if you are AF J you shouldn't have the QC lounge access problem at CDG!

Yes thank you have lounges covered. Seat, food, drink & IFE are all of concern.

Are you paying your own dough for this (and are not particularly concerned about SCs)? If so, consider flying VN from MEL-SGN-CDG, which has a codeshare with AF on the SGN-CDG leg on some days. Fares are very reasonably priced at the moment ($3.7k return).

I've posted a brief trip report on my experience in the Trip Reports forum. Air France's food was pretty good and the IFE was good too (although you must use the supplied headset... grrr). The arrivals lounge at CDG is good for a spot of decrapifying after a long flight too. However, the seat was not particularly good being angled and with a gap between the seat and the 'foot box'. Further, it was annoying being in a window seat and being unable to get out to visit the loo. Still, it was a darn sight better than any other long haul flight I've taken (all of which have admittedly been in the cheap seats).

Thanks read your trip report and good to learn of arrivals lounge which would be useful before I train from CDG to Loire Valley. Will keep VN in mind for future trips when a stopover in Vietnam would be good and SC not of concern which they are on this trip. I also need to return via HKG which AF & AY facilitate.

I'm a fan of Finnair! I've flown them to FRA a couple of times in J, and they have been great. Once it was QF to SIN then owards, then CX from HKG back home, the other time, CX to and from HKG. I was about to fly them again in September, but because there is three of us traveling together, we've just booked the QF companion special, which works out $1K cheaper each and more direct.

Personally I would go Finnair, when choosing flights you can usually avoid the angled seats and fly fully flat on the long hauls. Personally I am not a fan of the AF angled seats as they are/seem more slippery then the QF Skyslopes mark 1

Many thanks appreciate your message. I too am travelling in Sept, but solo so couldnt take advantage of the latest QF sale. Enjoy. I am going to fly with the AY option, its better value $$ than my AF option, less direct but straightforward connections.
