Airfares to US to drop?

Back to topic, HA just announced they’re increasing flights to/from Oz due to increased demand (and sluggish loads from Korea).
Increase in demand for HA or increase in demand for travel to Hawaii? It could well be the former as they pick up the slack created by the withdrawal of Jetstar from Hawaii (IIRC QF capacity increase didn’t match the JQ capacity reduction).

Any chance of discussing the topic ? Airfares to the USA as a reminder
Perhaps you've missed the point that potential visitors might be put off travelling to the US by the (reported) antics of CBP, and thus leave flights less full than airlines might have projected?

I know that I (and my extended family) would not dream of flying to the USA at the moment, even to change planes to a third country. And I say this as a United Mileage Plus Lifetime Platinum. But then I wouldn't fly to anywhere in South America right now either. Just not worth the hassle or possible injury or worse.

For reference, FWIW, I've flown to these places quite a few times prior to 9/11 in an official Australian Govt capacity.

No I haven't missed the point thanks Clifford

I think we all appreciate the … calling it “politics” is doing politics a disservice … let’s say the “situation” over there, it’s hard not to have friends in the US in these global times so it’s hard not to be worried about the implosion of the place our friend (and family) are trying to live.

However the sentiment is fair, I think; we all KNOW the disaster going-on over there, so let’s not discuss THAT but drag it back to the topic of the thread. How is that disaster affecting travel to there?

What disaster? From our region's perspective, it's increasing travel between Oz and SE Asia, and nations with whom we have stable and dependable relations with.

For those who want to travel to North America, any reduction in demand - and corresponding drops in prices to try and lure punters - is a positive.

Win / Win in my view. For everyone.

A380 returned to DFW this week. Looking at random dates in October for Syd/dfw city pair on QF and you won't get much change from 2800 bucks .

But if you fly onto to somewhere else, almost half that. eg ATL $1421. JFK/LGA sub $2k. MIA/FLL ~$1700. All via DFW.

The current descent into a fascist dictatorship. This entire thread is about what effect that descent into fascist dictatorship is having upon airfares to the US.
I'm just playing coy and refusing to mention anything political regarding events in certain places.

Don't want to upset the mods on an already dreary Saturday.

Travel is up :)
Though if that is mainly tourist travel that perhaps isn't the best indicator as I know I would book months out for travel to USA . Lol mind you my quickest was booking and going within six hours
In my looking at flights to anywhere lol I am finding USA is cheaper than previously but Europe and China have gone up in price

Travel is up :)
Those figures look more “normal” to the other stats posted recently. Also a better indicator of loads in both directions - which obviously also play into supply/demand, competition and pricing.

Just seen this in Forbes online :

U.S. tourism officials say Congress’s controversial $250 visa integrity fee will deter international visitors and cost the country nearly $11 billion in lost visitor spending and tax revenue over the next three years.

Didn’t know about this proposed fee when starting this thread, but yes I’d say there’s a very good chance a lot of those asked to cough up will decline..

Bullseye immigration consultants has this to say about the intended fee:

This new charge will be applied in addition to the existing visa application fees. For instance, a B-2 tourist visa, which currently costs US$185, will jump to US$435 (over AU$700) with the additional integrity fee. The policy will affect those applying for work, study, or tourist visas, including categories like F/M student visas, J exchange programs, and H-1B visas.

Australians entering the U.S. via the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA) will not be hit by the $250 fee. However, the ESTA application fee will also increase from US$21 to US$40, meaning even short-term travellers will face higher costs.

Way to go America!

The proposal is to refund the “Integrity” fee as an incentive to leave. But they haven’t worked out how to.

For most of us, it’s irrelevant.

Fortunately, I recently applied for an ESTA for one trip completed and another next month. So dodged the increase for 2yrs.

A $19 increase in the ESTA, while annoying is inconsequential compared to the variations in airfares, hotel costs, exchange rates, food prices and just about every other aspect of a trip there.

That’s two coffees in HNL…

A hell of a lot cheaper than NZ’s (luckily Aussies are exempt)

What’re the chances a $9.50 coffee in HNL is better than Blend 43?
I assume it’s possible to get proper coffee in Hawaii, but how likely is it?
And in Venice, are all those bodies you see floating down the canals baristas who made bad coffee?
