Hi everyone,

I just noticed one of my flights changed for a 73H to a 738.

What is the difference between the two aircraft?

The second flight is still listed as a 73H

I have also noticed one flight has 29 rows and the second has 30 rows.. Both have economy starting at Row 3. Strange?

73H is the newest model of the 737-800 whereas the 738 is the older 737-800. There shouldn't be too much variation on board except the 738 won't have the Boeing Sky Lighting, (if I'm not mistaken)
738 is the flight with 29 rows.
Others will probably know more than me about this however.

Thanks for that.

I have also noticed the MEL - DPS, SYD - DPS and BNE - DPS are operated by 738 as well.

Usually, these flights are in a lot newer aircraft. I am not quite too sure they are the older 737-800's.

I'm not a guru of this either, but I think it may be the other way around. The 73H I thought was the older 800s and the 73W was the 700s IIRC. I've been told the 738 has the winglets, but I'm not sure about that either.......in any case, as long as it doesn't fall out of the sky, I'm content with either!

Silly question time: How do you guys see if it is a 738 or 73H? When I click manage bookings it just shows the aircraft type as Boeing 737-800 - I can't tell if it is the new or old one.

Since they've changed the "manage bookings" page, I don't think you can.

A work around would be to look up your flight as a dummy booking and when you get to the page where you select the flight, click on the tab which is coloured red and has the flight number (this is actually a link to view the flight details). That will show the aircraft type currently scheduled......remembering that can and does change!

I don't think you can tell when in your own booking... You have to go back onto the search page and look at the flight details as swanning_it has shown.

So I just checked into my next flight and I can see that there is 29 rows on this flight.

When I pull up the flight in a dummy booking it is a 73H

From what I can see it seems to be that if it is a VA flight they are are 73H and if it is VAi for VA then it is a 738

Not sure if the aircraft I'll be in actually has 29 or 30 rows so if I remember I'll walk down the back and see.

Are there seats aft of row 3?

You may be right though, it was mentioned in another thread that the BSIs were registered for international voyages right from the outset which would tend to support the concept the 738s are the newer BSIs.

Hmmm interesting.

I would say your aircraft would be a VAI aircraft but they probably didn't update it on the booking page.

I think VAI is 29 rows and VA Domestic is the normal 30 row config. Just going by my seat selection page for both those flights.

Otherwise, it is probably an old Boeing 737-800 apart of the Virgin Australia Domestic Fleet.
