My understanding is they are getting very favourable finance terms. Which they also got with the boeings.

I have flown on Lion Air a few times. Was interesting to fly on the 737-900ER. The plane seemed to land and take off at a noticeably faster speed than the other 737s I have been in. The landing was a bit on the heavy side as well. I thought it might have just been the pilot. But I suppose if it has the same wing as a 738 but is a lot heavier so would need a higher takeoff and landing speed.

I ran in to some Lion Air pilots in a bar in Jakarta once. They were British expats in their mid 20s. They said most of the pilots were Brits, Aussies and Kiwis. I wonder where they will get
