Airbnb world wide apartments

I haven't used it, but I have a couple of friends who have used it and who only have great things to say about the places they stayed.

I'm using it in Rio over NYE. Was much cheaper than hotels (which were both ridiculously priced, and booked out during this peak time)

Will report back on the experience, but my in-laws have used it in the US and said it was great.

I have been looking on this site for the past 6 weeks or so for European accommodation and have found several apartments that appear to be suitable. There are references to this site scattered around this forum, some good and some not so good. There are also warnings with regards to properties that do not have any reviews or only have reviews relating to other properties or from "friends" of the owners. Make sure you do your research!

Looked at it briefly for Hobart, but not much that I would say ticked the right boxes. Still, I'll keep it in my back pocket.

Have booked a few places via here for my Europe trip in July so will report back, have only chosen those with good references. In general very cheap but on occasions have googled the wording and found the same places direct or via other means cheaper.

Hotels combined is a good tool to check prices against. In a few places have chosen hotels but my wife likes the idea of market shopping and then cooking something up at home when we want. I like the price differential and the extra space of an apartment!

Happy to refer anyone, we both get (USD) $25 off when you book. No obligation to book once you sign up.

I dont wish to be rude but how do you FFers not know about this site? I've been using it very successfully for several years. On our Europe trip last year we stayed in 5 different airbnb places and they were all terrific.

Find places with plenty of reviews, read the reviews, contact the owner and book.

Sooooo much more space than a hotel room and you actually live like a local rather than having to ring reception to ask them to bring up an iron.

My sister (who can travel with virtually no money!) swears by this. has travelled all around the world with it.

She found for my parents an awesome 2BR apartment in Paris at half the cost of a shoebox hotel, with Wifi internet included.

She now rents out her spare room sporadically (samh004 may have looked at it.....).

Is a win on both sides. Surprised this hasnt been discussed on AFF previously, although you dont earn points / loyalty....

Edit: having double checked it was actually 1BR (with fold out).

I beg to differ, I used airbnb to stay in an apartment in Chicago and had to ring the owner to ask where her iron was - she didn't own one, but was able to provide directions to a cleaner :p.

On a more serious note I have used airbnb twice now with fantastic results. Once was an individual renting out her private apartment whilst she travelled for business, another was a couple who have several properties listed and are dedicated holiday rental landlords, but had a local 'caretaker.' Both experiences were slightly different but on the whole were fantastic.

My girlfriend used airbnb several times late last year (Portugal, Spain, Poland) and has only positive things to talk about her experiences. She thinks our future stays will be through airbnb rather than those fancy hotels I prefer to stay at.

Do you have a contact for this apartment please?

Was a couple of years ago, will try and find out.

Thanks. I'm driving myself nuts looking at apartments. There are several that I have found that look great, but there are no reviews for them (yet).

One of the biggest problems with looking at 2br Paris apartments on Airbnb, is that they list a sofa couch in the living area, as a bedroom! Certainly not what I'm looking for.

AirBNB has been raised elsewhere but maybe we are all wired to get an extra 2000 points that we ignore $50-100 off offers!

I've used this in Sydney, London, Tuscany and in America. When I travel for fun I like to get a proper feel for a city so I find that staying with locals is the easiest way to do this and it saves money as well.

I've got four nights in Chelsea, London in April for $200aud.

We used airbnb for Paris and rented a 2 br penthouse apartment in Dormesniul which had good reviews and was perfect.

We had no problems with the and found our landlords very helpful. You do need to contact them and assess the fit, though.

On the option for room type where you can select apartment or room there is a show more link where you can select # of bedrooms. I tend not to do this in smaller places but in Paris or larger cities would be a good way to ensure there really are 2 bedrooms.

We use this site where ever we can. Bangkok twice, Chiang Mai, Bali and even in Oz. Great value and safe to use

I'm looking to use AirBnb for New York later this year. Happy to hear recommendations if anyone has them.

We have one booked in Barcelona next month. Am also looking for one in Paris. I found one that looked perfect and was just about to book it when I read that sheets and towels were not provided . I'm not travelling with sheets and towels!
