AirAsia X to Offer Flat Bed Seats

I flew KUL-PER last week. When I rocked up at the airport my booked and paid for Premium seat had disappeared. They have gone from 28 seats in the Premium cabin down to 12 in order to have these beds. I've lodged a compliant and a request to be refunded the difference in fares but being Air Asia I'm not holding my breath.

Would have been nice if they had contacted me beforehand to tell me that due to the change in cabin configuration they were now overbooked in Premium!!

Yes - I know - it's a LCC. I'm lowering my expectations of these carriers all the time - I just wonder how low they can go.

I heard somewhere that AU to STN return via KUL in premium could be as low as $1400-$1500. (Not sure if premium just gives you the seat, i.e. no baggage allowance, no meals, etc.)

That's about the same as rack rate specials on LON r/t ex-AU for other airlines.

No points, status or lounges, of course.

That's really harsh. Good luck with the refund and given your circumstances, I think that you'll get your $ back.

Oops, forgot to say that I think those beds look v.good esp. considering its on a LCC.

It is still a LCC with limited destinations and not part of an alliance.

Amazingly enough after 12 weeks a refund of about 47% of the fare has just hit my credit card statement. I have no idea how the refund amount was calculated as I have had absolutely no contact from Air Asia since receiving an email acknowledgement of receipt of the original complaint. Oh well, I won't say no to money. :)
