Thai AirAsia X (XJ) will launch new services from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi Airport) to Melbourne and Sydney commencing 1 and 2 December 2022.

Four weekly flights direct from Bangkok to Sydney Airport depart on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and to Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) three times a week on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Not surprising since it looks like Qantas and Thai have been making out like bandits for their direct Australia to BKK services at the moment, more expensive to fly to Thailand than many places in Europe or the US from Australia.

The loss of a daily Emirates flight from Sydney to Bangkok (and Thai's BNE-BKK service) have also removed a lot of capacity from that market.

More capacity at the moment is good news IMHO, regardless of which airline is providing it.

Interesting that the flights are to/from BKK. When Thai AirAsia X flew to Brisbane a few years back, it was out of DMK.

Hopefully, although they are a budget airline they will allocate enough "extra leg room seats" to fit any Aussie over 6 feet tall or 5ft 9 if the person in front reclines their seat while you have your tray down.

Sadly it looks like AVV is a Covid casualty. AVV was really cranking up with Bail and Vietnam direct flights as well as AirAsia. Now, nothing.
Don't recall the Vietnam flights (if any) took off from AVV prior to the shutdowns.

From memory pre-shutdowns had just Citilink (GA's LCC) to Bali and Air AsiaX to KUL.
GA ultimately pulled back to a single daily ex-SYD on a A330, choosing not to use its LCC to Australia post pandemic.

With JQ covering the LCC end and TG double daily into MEL, something had to give.

Being the only LCC on SYD-BKK however, they may had found their niche there.
