Hi All, quick question regarding business class on Air Tahiti Nui Auckland to Papeete. It seems to get mixed reviews on general internet sites so I have come to ask those that are more likely to know for an opinion. The occasion is my partners 50th so bear this in mind. So how do we rate their business product - if it is poor then I'll likely just upgrade the accommodation, if its at least average then probably splash the cash and feel some love at the front of the aircraft. Thanks for your thoughts and possibly philosophy on maintaining a 'happy wife / life". Cheers.

IMHO I would go for the J cabin and get a reasonable hotel in PPT.

Last year I was in the same position as you eric2011.

In the end I decided we would fly Y for the following reasons:
Both flights are only around 5 hours in daylight hours
The aircraft seating is in a 2 4 2 configuration so we didn't have to sit next to anyone else.
The J seats are only recliners

The worst part was the check-in at PPT which took almost an hour and to make matters worse it is an open air terminal.

I'm glad I put the money we saved into upgrading to an OWB at Moorea for a week.

TN have old and new J cabins...the old cabin is cough...and service just average. ..we flew in Sep 15

The OP didn't say the accommodation is in PPT. I would hope it isn't (apart from the nights there required due to flight schedules). There are so many far more beautiful places to stay if you're going to make the effort to fly to French Polynesia, even if you only go as far as Moorea.

Thanks for all your thoughts, much appreciated. Have taken the plunge and booked J class, SYD to PPT as minimal difference in cost from mixed fare Y/J. You are right Anna, we're not staying in PPT but travelling on to Bora Bora - on partners bucket list (mine to if truth be told!). Will report back on TN experience as well as J on NZ 787 though this won't be till August and I suspect posts will already have been made by then. Thanks again for all your advice as regards my question.
Cheers
