What's this??? Some common sense returning to aviation?

Hi,

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but isn't it only Australian airlines who use plastic knives at the moment?

I was under the assuption that they had chosen to remain with plastic knives.

It will be good however to see some common sense back in the airline world.

That's one thing I never understood..

you can do a lot more damage with a sharpened plastic knife than you could ever do with a blunt-as metal butter knife

I thought it's flights into and out of Australia?

Forks can also be used as a dangerous weapon if in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing... I'd also hate to have a glass bottle pointed at me and yet they are still allowed...

The problem is that most things can be used as a weapon if given to someone who knows what they are doing...

I was not aware that umbrellas were off limits.

Again I think that the ban on cutting devices was not so much about weaponry but was about cutting communication cables.

This is great news and about time. It will be great to have some sensible policies about duty free from other ports as well. Might also lead to soe cheaper deals inbound to SYD as they will have to compete again with the rest of the world!

...These new rules could take a while though as they still need to go through Parliament.

And they are all busy saving the world from CO2, by flying to the other side of the world and talking about it:rolleyes:

That's what BA told me when flying LHR to JFK whilst enjoying the sheer luxury of a metal knife.

Recently in Syd FLounge, I had the poached eggs on sourdough etc. It was not possible to cut the breadcrust with the plakky knife.

Neither was I as I always carry an umbrella in my briefcase.

I believe it is referring to the larger umbrellas, which can have pointy ends on them rather than the small ones that would fold up into a carry on bag.

I am a knitter. I am a very very good knittter but the thought of someone sitting next to me knitting is horrible. The click click click click of the needles would drive me mad. Then if they are inconsiderate and are knitting a huge jumper they would probably have their elbows firmly dug into the arms rests ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Or a complex pattern then they drop a stitch. How annoying that person would be.

Although, that said I am tempted to bring along some knitting just incase I am stuck next to some horrible person and I am in the mood to annoy them........

It is only in/out of Oz - as evidenced by my plastic knife on CX flying SYD-HKG but metal flatware on CX flying HKG-BKK-DEL

karens,

I defy you to actually hear the 'click click click click of the needles' over the background noise of the aircraft.

Also, I will not let my wife read your post as she will be gunning for you :!:

I think karens will be gunning for herself! She takes her knitting stuff with her when she travels too
