Hi All,

Long time reader, but I've never actually posted here - thought it'd be a good time to start :)

Anyway, I have an upcoming trip to Fiji (SYD-NAN) with Air Pacific ticketed through Qantas and am flying on one of their 744s. I'm booked in economy.

I checked the booking on the checkmytrip site after making it to ensure all was well, and the flight to NAN was showing my friend and I as sitting in 30D and 30E.

I've checked it again today and it's now showing us as sitting in 6J and 6K which according to the seat map is business/Tabua class.

Does this mean that we might have been given a complimentary upgrade, or do the actual seat numbers not mean anything on the Amadeus web site? I was planning on trying for a paid upgrade when I get to the airport (according to the travel agent, Air Pacific will let you do this for about $400 if they have a seat available), but if I've been given an upgrade anyway then fantastic.

Thanks,

Shaun

Cannot vouch for your situation but checkmytrip has always shown correct seating allocation for me - and 6JK on a 744, according to www.seatguru.com are not only J, but exit row as well.

Hope you really did score an upgrade. :)

Congrat's for the OP-UP!!!

Ahhh if only they would do it to me...

Mr!

Congrats on the op-up...!

Just one thing to triple check - that they haven't moved their aircraft around and you are now on a 73H.... and row 6 therefore would be economy.

On the 767 6J & K would be in economy.

That thought just ran through my head then as well. I forgot FJ had 763s in their fleet.

Equipment is still showing as 744 on checkmytrip and on the Qantas site though. I guess time will tell :)

It'll be my first op up if it is the case, but given our relatively low status it seems less likely (we're both PS+QP, person I'm flying with is about 80SCs from SG and I've got a few more to go).

Can you see the seat map on checkmytrip. That should help confirm if it is a 744 or 763.

I can, except it doesn't make much sense:

It's definitely a 744 judging by rows 19 onwards, but it's showing a 3-2-3 config where I'm sitting and doesn't match any of the Air Pacific seat maps.

FJ have refreshed their interior on the 744 late last year with one aircraft (the second goes in next month), they must have taken the opportunity to increase Y at the same time.

Is appears you are still travelling in WHY; I did an E/F seat map for 6/3/09 it matches that in post #8 . With this new configuration, J is now rows 1-4 and upstairs(Rows 12-17)

WHY starts with a row 6 bulkhead, rows 6-10 are 2x4x2 so maybe a new Y+ sold as WHY.

Bugger, that explains it then.

At least the section is 2-4-2, which I'd prefer over 3-4-3.

Thanks :)

Thanks for that, missed that one! A little OT, but are there any details of the refresh or pics? New seats? All I could find was this media release

Media Centre

Reason is I have a J trip in FJ coming up in Feb and was hoping to get the re-furbished 747... interested to know some more detail on the new look.

Interesting that United were flying flights for them (given QF owns 50% of FJ!!).... Everyone is in everyones pockets I guess.

Looks like I may have ended up with something.

checkmytrip is now showing the SYD-NAN flight as "Operated by United Airlines".

The seat map on checkmytrip and EF looks like the United 744 version B seat map on seatguru (can't post a link as I don't have 10 posts yet).

6 J and K are definitely in J. I wonder if they're putting J passengers in F, and some Y passengers in J?

In any case, I suppose I'll find out for certain in a few weeks :)

You can't beat the UA crew, as it would appear they 'each' have 50 years experience on those international routes. :D:D On a more serious note, up until four years ago I was flying four trips per annum on UA between SYD-SFO and I don't think I could complain aboubt any of the crews.
