Hey all

Wondering if anyone could clear this up for me?

Flying Air Pacific to Fiji last Friday and I'm WP but was denied entry into the Qantas F lounge because it was marked as a FJ flight not QF flight. Even though it is codeshared with QF.

However, we were able to get into the business lounge no problems.

So if I understand this right, any WP member can access the business lounge regardless of the flight they are on. For example I could be flying Emirates and get into the business lounge.

However to get into the F lounge you must be on a QF flight or oneworld member flight?

Seems to be confusing standards.

Yes that's correct. Platinum 'any time' access to F lounges was removed earlier this year. You now must be travelling QF or one world flight for access.
Any time access remains for J lounges.

(same goes technically for Dom J lounge vs Qantas Club, although reports are that this is not always enforced)

What is confusing?

As a WP
Any time access to Business Class Lounge
Access to First Class Lounge on Qantas, oneworld airlines or Jetstar (for WP only)

So apart from the addition of Jetstar, First Class lounge access rules are identical to oneworld emeralds.

You'd need to be departing on a flight that is marketed and operated by a oneworld carrier or JQ to enter the Flounge.

... Seems to be confusing standards.
Until April 1st this year; all WP had entry rights to any open Qantas lounge they could physically access.

This was termed "Anytime Access"

More in this thread here:

As for confusing, as per the T&C's, to assist you I will summarise:
Platinum Access said:
International First Class Lounge Access said:
Member and 1 guest can access the lounge when travelling on a Qantas, Jetstar or oneworld flight.# Guest must be travelling with member.
International Business Lounge said:
Member and 1 guest can access lounge any time.^ Guest must be travelling with member.
Qantas Domestic Business Lounge said:
Member's next onward flight that day must be on a QF, BA or JQ flight number. Member and 2 guests. Guests do not need to be travelling.
The Qantas Club (Domestic lounge) said:
Member and 2 guests can access lounge any time. Guests do not need to be travelling.

Cool thanks for the clarifying responses.

I would have thought being a codeshare flight I would have got in.

We were in Economy. But it wouldn't have mattered if we had of been in tabua class as FJ flights don't get you access regardless of it being a QF codeshared flight with tickets being sold by Qantas and given to us by Qantas at the check-in desk.

Of course, flying Tabua class, you would have had access to the Qantas J lounge irrespective of status.

This was also discussed recently on FT:

I wonder if a non-tiered Qantas Club member would have been allowed into the J lounge when travelling in economy on Air Pacific.

There was much discussion here when Air Pacific began ejecting Qantas Club members travelling in economy from the lounge in Fiji!

It's equally "fun" on the *A side of the fence - when FJ is involved..;)

Flew on NZ4011 (operated by FJ as FJ811) .. booked/paid and upgraded with Airbucks through NZ when it was still an NZ metal flight...

Upgrade stuck thank God!

Was directed to a generic lounge at the TBIT.. which had no showers..

Went to the *A Lounge and WAS let in on the strength of the Gold card and, I think, the "NZ4011" flight # on the BP.... WHEW!!

These codeshare arrangements can get messy when it is not a "full" alliance partner involved....

I flew on QF391 to Nadi last week and had no problem getting access. I did asked via the QANTAS web site before booking and was told that even though the web site says oneworld metal, the rule is QF flight number. Needless to say I was not questioned when I entered the F lounge on an economy ticket on the flight to Fiji.

PS even on a QF flight number on Air pacific you can do paid upgrade. Though it is AUD$400 from SYD to NAN.

Just a further hypothetical. Given that a non tiered Qantas Club member can be denied access to the Business lounge in Sydney when travelling on in economy on an Air Pacific flight,

could Snowmoo (Platinum QFF) have also been denied access to the Business lounge on the grounds that he was not on a QF flight?

Further, could a Gold QFF also be denied access to the Sydney Business Lounge when travelling in economy on Air Pacific?

... could Snowmoo (Platinum QFF) have also been denied access to the Business lounge on the grounds that he was not on a QF flight? ...
No (see post 5)

... Further, could a Gold QFF also be denied access to the Sydney Business Lounge when travelling in economy on Air Pacific?
Yes (must be travelling oneworld or JQ)

So change seems to be that they have pushed the Plat Anytime Lounge Access from the premium lounge down to the next one.

It also seems that for non-Plat loungers (ie Golds/QClubs) when travelling on airlines with which QF has loose and/or code share arrangements [eg Air Vanuatu, Air Pacific, Air Nuigini etc], the safest thing is to be on the QF codeshare flight.

Damn right too. I don't know how many thousand Platinum FF's there are but they were starting to clog up the new F lounge at MEL even though most of them were not flying F and many of them not even on QF.

A huge percentage of Platinum FF's earn their status through corporate and government paid travel and then want to lounge around in the F lounge when they are taking the wife and kids on holiday in Y to Fiji or Bali etc. Not on in my book.

I think that the F lounge should be for F passengers only, (perhaps Platinum flyers traveling in J) irrespective of status but then of course it would be fairly empty most of the time!

I take it that you fly in F all the time and following the popular approach on the forum for loung restriction that means that the person making the suggestion will get access but others will be denied?
