Air NZ is reconfiguring its Boeing 787s and 777s with up to 42 "Economy Stretch" seats with 35 inches of seat pitch.

Sounds a bit like VA Economy X, AA Main Cabin Extra, UA Economy Plus or DL Comfort Plus, etc. I wonder how much they'll charge for these seats and whether they'll be free for frequent flyers?

No one is expecting them to be free or if it is free initially then it won’t be later. Good for tall people I guess.

It’s unlikely that they’ll be free. Even if they are, they’ll be first available only to the top tier frequent flyers

Given NZ's standard economy long haul pitch has been 32-33" to date, it looks a bit like tightening the back of the bus to 31" ala QF. Not long ago NZ's 747s had 34" pitch in economy. Interesting that given NZ PE pitch is 42", to think of the PE pitch of QF at 38", key is the price point NZ is selling 35" Economy Stretch at.

Will they offer more recline? Surely.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
