Air NZ grounds budget airline

AIR New Zealand is to ground its budget airline Freedom Air from the end of March next year as part of a revamp of its Pacific and trans-Tasman routes.

The airline announced today that from March 30, Air New Zealand services would replace those of Freedom Air on the Tasman route, the New Zealand Press Association reported.
Freedom Air was set up more than ten years ago and has carried more than four million travellers.
Norm Thompson, general manager of short haul airlines, said replacing Freedom Air with Air New Zealand would give customers more consistent and higher quality service.
"The reality is that the price of airfares has fallen dramatically over the past 10 years, and today there is little difference between Freedom and Air New Zealand fares," he said

Alot of people speculate this is perhaps what will eventually happen to Jetstar as well.... interesting though! Flew Freedom once, pretty horrible experience and I think they are still operating flights for Air NZ under Air NZ livery right (kind of like Australian Airlines / Qantas)?

Also interesting Air NZ slowly moving more premium... of course still held up by the NZ government, should be interesting though...

which people are saying this?? if anything I think we will see more JQi and Qantas slowly restricted to big business routes
