I am looking at booking Y on Air New Zealand back to Melbourne on November 1st and it is coming up with 2 flights - one leaving LAX at 9:15pm and one at 10pm on the same night.
I would prefer the less crowded plane obviously - and as I need to wait in Auckland for the Melbourne flight, then don't care which flight I get.

Anyway of working out which flight is less booked ?
NZ0001 and NZ0005 - both 777-300

thanks

I have done this quite a few times.

NZ1 is an inbound transit from London - I have found the NZ5 tend to have lighter loads. However, sometimes the transit to NZ123 for MEL connecting from NZ5 is too soon and it results in a long wait.

Thanks serfty -what do you mean by too soon - do you miss the Melbourne connection ? It is 1 hr from LA flight arriving to the Melbourne flight leaving. Do they put you on the next Melbourne flight if you miss it due to late arrival of LA flight ?

thanks for your help.

Last year I had a booking NZ5/NZ123 with a 1:25 transit - it was rescheduled about 4 months out to a 45 minute transitand no longer did it meet MCT. I was rebooked on an early afternoon flight.

FWIW, I did QF5/QF123 successfully in June - even had time for a shower in the NZ intnerational lounge.
