Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations

With high (though far from unprecedented) winds in SYD, the airport looks to be down to using just the east-west runway.

NZ104 (B789 ZK-NZK, the 1145 hours late morning SYD across to AKL) did not become airborne until 1403 hours, so arrival at gate is suggested as 1835 hours, 110 minutes tardy.

Coupled with the contaminated jet fuel in AKL that sees airlines only being allocated 75 per cent of their normal supply, it's not a 'happy chappy' picture in the Shaky Isles.

In Sydney, the north-south runways appear to be reopening at about 1430 hours on Wednesday 14 December, but not before many delays were caused.

NZ125 (Sunday 18 December, the 1335 hours AKL-MEL - B789 ZK-NZJ) that took off at 1526 should shortly arrive MEL at 1644 hours, 69 late.

ZK-NNC (A321) on NZ147 (1605 hours AKL-BNE airborne 65 minutes later) looks to be at its arrival gate at around 1739, 49 minutes behind the schedule.

Completing a troika of unpunctuality, NZ107 (ZK-NNB) that is the 1620 hours AKL across to SYD was not airborne until 1813 so its arrival will be at approximately 1932, 92 behind.

These delays will mean well after midnight arrivals for some travelling across to Kiwiland.

On Thursday 5 January 2023, NZ106, the 1530 hours SYD-AKL with B789 ZK-NZD was not airborne until 1936 in the early evening. Arrival at gate is predicted as 0010 hours on Friday 6, 220 minutes behind schedule.

Commencing with the 1830 hours early evening 3 January NZ979 (TBU-AKL), this aircraft has been extremely late for five consecutive trips.

Hi all - anybody know why nz107 to Syd diverted to Brisbane this evening?

On Friday 10 February 2023, I assume there must be some fog at MEL as NZ253, the 0605 hours WLG-MEL (A320 ZK-NHA) travelled almost to Warragul (Vic) and then diverted, with its probable destination SYD.

NZ211 from CHC to MEL is just ahead of it, having also diverted, although in its case it was in a hold over Yarragon and Warragul before making that decision. This is also an 0605 hours but from CHC that took off at 0628 hours with colleague ZK-NHC.

Whilst there were obviously a large amount of cancellations due to cyclone Gabrielle yesterday and overnight, a few Air NZ flights did an afternoon departure ex-AUS but are now either turning back (NZ124 back to MEL for instance) or are diverted to CHC (NZ102) due to the recent ground halt of airport operations at AKL again.

Similar applies for a LATAM flight who circled over AKL and now seems to fly back to SYD while a China Eastern also flies back to BNE atm.

On Wednesday 8 March 2023, the 1210 hours lunchtime NZ124 (B773 ZK-OKQ) took off at 1329 hours so expected at gate arrival is 1827, 47 late.

Also on a Wednesday, but 10 May, NZ103, the 0900 hours AKL-SYD (A321 ZK-NNE) took off at 1103 so arrival is at 1219 hours, 104 minutes late.

NZ107 (B789 ZK-NZI, the 1615 hours afternoon flight from AKL down to SYD) on Thursday 22 June 2023 took off at 1913. Arrival should be shortly at 2038 hours, 156 minutes late.

The plane is forming the 1915 hours back, NZ110, that's expected to push back at 2145, 150 late. Given the two hour time difference, it'll make for a bleary-eyed traveller group alighting in NZ's largest city.

A3211 ZK-NNF has formed Sunday 25 June's NZ102 (0955 hours SYD-AKL in the sky at 1107 hours) with slated gate arrival 1553 hours, 48 late.

On Tuesday 27 June 2023, B773ER ZK-OKS is on NZ123, the 0850 AKL-MEL in the sky at 0958 hours. Expected arrival is 1130 hours, 40 minutes late.

Sunday 2 July 2023 sees NZ107 (A321 ZK-NNG, the 1615 hours mid afternoon AKL-SYD) not in the sky until 1749 hours, so expected arrival is an hour late at 1900 hours. NZ110, the returning 1915 hours offering will likely be similarly late pushing back.

Apparently there's some problem with passport-validating software operated by the Australian Border Force, media briefly reported about half an hour ago. It's allegedly leading to some delays in international departures.

This may explain why NZ124, the Thursday 6 July 2023's1210 hours MEL-AKL (B773ER ZK-OKR) did not depart until 1306 hours, 56 late, although on its inbound NZ123 it was only 24 late in arriving at gate at 1114 hours.

Wednesday 8 of November saw NZ127 (B789 ZK-NZL) AKL-MEL divert to SYD. The flight from SYD is due to arrive in MEL at 20 23, 278 min tardy.

This aircraft is operating the return leg to AKL which is NZ128 which has a scheduled departure at 21 00 (I suspect a bit later than that!)
