Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

I saw a video posted on Reddit of a guy who was on the previous flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad. He was showing how his entertainment system wouldn't work or the call button and the AC wasn't working. But people pointed out that everyone else's seemed to be working in his video etc.
Flew on a newish AI 787 10 years ago from DEL to DME, the cabin interior was in a shocking state; torn upholstery, faulty reading lights, AV inop, all surfaces filthy. I remember saying to my wife that I hope their maintenance program is good where it matters most!

Since the introduction of electronic calculation of the take of data, the ability to work out the 'best' configuration changed dramatically. On the 747, we basically used just the one setting, because it was too time consuming to calculate the data for multiple settings. Laptops and iPads changed that, so that now you can see an entire range of settings being used, and it's common to see takeoffs with very little flap. If you don't have the correct setting, the aircraft will not rotate and lift off normally, and the video seems to show a normal rotation. As far as I'm concerned, I can see no reason to continue with the flap theories.
Could the Pilot Monitoring had a brain fart moment and instead of retracting gear, retracted the flaps?

I'm probably more interested in what the FCUs and their software were doing. This all looks so normal, right up to the point where the air ground switch would have changed to air.

I know one guy it’s happened to (not the 787). Below ‘500 on departure from 16L in SYD. In his case he caught it and manually increased the thrust and the aircraft responded normally. Engineers couldn’t find anything wrong when it was inspected or which system was to blame.

“Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, the director general of the directorate of civil aviation, told AP that the crash occurred five minutes after departure.“
Does not inspire confidence, if accurately quoted.
Possibly means five minutes after departure from the gate?

Indeed - departure and take-off are two different events and time-stamps.
True. I think I processed the statement thinking of the name of the standard radio transmission from aircraft to ATC following takeoff: the departure report…

Departure from an ATC perspective is the time the aircraft set course, as opposed to airline definitions where the aircraft has left the gate.

crash for Air India in 43 years.
Not if you include Air India Express

......

The gear lever and flap lever are in 2 very different locations . One the pilot has to reach and the other not. Additionally the gear level handle is round like a wheel whereas the flap lever is shaped like a wing. Plus the flap lever has a gate do the movement in different directions is required.
That reduces but not eliminate the human error
