Air India and difficulties on the India - Australia route overall

If its a choice between spending 2 hours more on a flight and getting there that day, and waiting for a direct flight the next day, I have a feeling that people will fly on the day they want.

Will this work? Probably not. I feel that Singapore (and possibly Bangkok) are too good to transit through and ultimately fly direct to the city of choice. Perhaps a better thing would have been for AI to route via singapore with daily flights from Singapore to Melbourne and Sydney

quite possibly. Good shopping for nationals returning home, both SIN & BKK.

the proofs in the pudding. Lets keep an eye on loads.

the other factor is service.i hear AI are not that flash, that will be telling over time.

india needs to modernize its thinking and support its place in the world with better innovation and product delivery.

One thing that has not been mentioned about India in regards to Business, is that it is actually a cough place to do business. Many entities would like to business there, but have found the many layers of corruption make it an unviable place to do business.

You will find many have tried but many have just moved their business to China.

quite a corrupt bureaucratic place. Capital picks up and flies elsewhere when faced with too many of these 'establishment' and 'recurring' costs.

At least one Australian media report I have recentky seen has AI claiming that bookings for its Australian flights are 'robust'.

This does not disclose anything about yields.

Totally agreed.. & experienced from a business perspective. Never trust them, never will.
As for ever flying Air India... Never a chance.

Today's AI flight arrived in SYD 25 minutes late. By the time it left MEL it was 59 minutes late although the latter may be the time it took off, not when it departed from the gate. The passengers I observed checking in at MEL were all Indians, although I did not observe every traveller - just a snapshot.

I'd guess they are travellers on their way *to* India, so expect them to be on return flights in the near future.

The Australian Tourism Commision keeps emphasising that 140,000 Indians now arrive annually in Australia. Many would be students but some may be bona fide tourists.

I don't know from which end (i.e. origin of the traveller) the bookings are stronger. However because the flights are new, it is fair to assume that not many will be doing their return leg with AI at this stage.
