Today's CA176, the 1020 from SYD to PVG did not depart until 1516. While the bad weather in SYD would have been unhelpful, this may also have been at least partly due to fog in Shanghai overnight as CA175 had not arrived until a claimed 1436 this afternoon.

A 40 minute turnaround for this A332 (B-6132) seems impossible but that is what Sydney Airport claims occurred. CA176 is expected to be more than four hours late into PVG at about 2330 this evening.

If you have a connection at PVG, then CA will be sure arrange that for you, normally with the next earliest available service, however if you are asking for the compensation, then normally it's nil if the delay or cancellation is caused by weather.

Looking at flightaware it seems to show two CA175 arriving in SYD today. One arrived at 751am, and a second arrived from Melbourne at 1349. CA176 left at 1537... which appears to be a continuation of the flight that arrived from MEL?

Very confusing!

No doubt seats will be arranged for the next flight connection... the only issue is how (or even if) that will be handled when pax arrive tonight . Chinese airlines aren't known for managing IRROPS particularly well. Plenty of pretty bad stories of delayed pax arriving at CAN to find the airport empty and pretty much being left to their own devices. Luckily for any English speaking pax I think PVG is a better airport communication wise than CAN. Just a matter of being able to find staff.

Today's CA177 from PEK and PVG is running two hours and 29 minutes late and not due to arrive in MEL until 1034. The return CA178 ex MEL has been altered to depart at 1200 instead of 1035. This airline has quite a few delays. Some may be weather, and perhaps others are due to the (grossly misnamed) 'People's Liberation Army' controlling airspace over mainland China.

yesterday's flights into and out of shanghai were severely disrupted due to severe weather... flights PVG-HKG were either cancelled, or delayed 6 or more hours (some delayed 8 hours).

friends travelling from sanya to shanghai were delayed over 5 hours.

so all in all I think air China did a pretty good job to get away with a relatively minor delay last night.

This morning's CA173 from PEK has just arrived in SYD two hours late at 0850. As CA174 does not depart until 1940 tonight, it should be OK. Perhaps more weather related delays?

There have been storms in PEK so CA165 that should have arrived in MEL at a timetabled 1435 is delayed until 2240. The return CA166 is nominally delayed from 2040 to 2345, but turning around the aircraft in 65 minutes is rather unlikely. This is also a busy time for MEL international departures.

CA173 from PEK was an hour and three quarters late arriving in SYD this morning.

Due to what may have been fog at around 0800 in MEL on Saturday 5 December, CA177 is expected to be at the gate at MEL ex PVG at 1025, 85 minutes late. A332 B-5933 is operating the sector. It remains in a holding pattern above Kerang.

CA174, the 2040 hours from SYD to PEK on Wednesday 9 December took off at 2207 due to the 2000 hours or so storms in SYD this evening. A333 B-5978 will hence be late into PEK in the morning.

On saturday 19 December, CA178, the 1135 from MEL to PVG did not take off until 1242. It should arrive at 2011 hours this evening, 46 minutes late with A332 B-6540 the aircraft.

The Christmas Day CA165 from PEK to MEL is due out at 0105 in the 'small hours' but did not take off until 0955. Instead of arriving at 1535, it should be in Australia's 'second city' at 0025 on Boxing Day. A332 B-6080 is the plane.

The returning CA166 back to PEK is to be delayed from 2140 hours on Christmas Day to an expected 0040 departure early on St Stephen's Day, reflective of the long turnaround allowed in the schedule for this MEL rotation.

The Boxing Day CA177 MEL arrival did not take off from PVG until 2117 on Christmas Day despite a timetabled 1915 hours evening departure. It should be in MEL at about 1050, 110 minutes late with A332 B-5918 the plane.

CA165 from PEK on Wednesday 6 January is expected into MEL about 75 minutes late at 1650 hours this afternoon.

The Tuesday 16 February 2016 arrival of CA165 in MEL ex PEK was 75 minutes late at 1645 but this ought not affect the return flight due to the fairly long layover.

CA177 from PVG to MEL (A332 B-6073) took off at 2008 on Wednesday 24 February despite a departure time of 1915 hours. It will arrive at about 0940 on Thursday 25 February, 40 minutes behind schedule.

As the return flight from MEL to PVG and PEK does not depart until a timetabled 1135, it should not be late (fingers crossed.) It is often advantageous to check the allowed turnaround times as short turnarounds are favoured by many foreign airlines and even some QF flights coming into Oz, so late arrivals from overseas with these can lead to similarly late departures.

CA177 from PEK and PVG usually arrives in MEL at 0900 but on 10 March, it is arriving at about 1615. Aircraft is A332 B-6076.

The Thursday 10 March CA178 from MEL to PVG and PEK has been delayed in its departure from 1135 this morning to an expected 1720 this afternoon.

CA165 into MEL on Sunday 20 March ex PEK arrived at about 1640, more than an hour late. However this flight has a generous turnaround in MEL so its return, CA166 ought not be late.
